On his third record Come Ruff, Swedish breakbeat-artist Aimnbreak unites 90s jungle with influences from modern production. Raw, dirty 90s breaks meet massive soundscapes.

A former drummer, Aimnbreak has played in a number of Hardcore bands. As a DJ and live artist he has played live at Swedish clubs and festivals like Art’s Birthday, the Norberg Festival, Camp 303, Birdhouse and Adrenalin, as well as Ritterbutzke in Berlin and Monkeywrench in Leeds.

With his new record, Aimnbreak follows up his earlier records La Latina and Introversy.

On his debut EP, Dub Tower pays homage to King Tubby and Jah Shaka in a digital style. Produced deep in the woods of the Swedish countryside, Dub Tower merges classic reggae and dub elements with a modern sound.

Dub Tower is a former techno DJ and owner of the legendary Svaj music café in Stockholm.

What happens if you cross a 303 synth with a shepherd from Epirus? Greek Acid!

On her fourth EP Greek Acid, Gavana (Anna Gavanas) retraces her Greek roots. With her dad Manolis she has rummaged through the vinyl record shops of Athens looking for Greek traditional music like
rebetiko, laikos and tsifteteli. But she got hooked on a shepherd’s song from Epirus by Tassos Halcidis. Inspired by these sounds, and a meeting with the musician Lars Ydgren, Gavana has gone “all in.” With a 303 bassline, a sampler and a couple of analog synths she has made acid music for the dancefloor, breezing from the mountains of Epirus accompanied by crickets from Skiathos.

The instrumental interventions by Lars Ydgren: Since the 1990s, the clarinettist and saxophonist Lars Ydgren has taken an interest in klezmer and roman music from Balkan. With the bands Den Flygande Bokrullen and Süperstar Orkestar he has been part of the klezmer and balkan brass influence on the Swedish live scene and released a number of records. The second record of Den Flygande Bokrullens ”20th century klezmer” was recently awarded as one of Sweden’s best folk/ world music records of all times by the music magazine Lira.

The Greek Acid Exarchaeia remix by Dangsha: Dhangsha is the electronic incarnation of Aniruddha Das, aka "Dr Das" bassist and co-founder of Asian Dub Foundation. His remit is to explore minimalism, repetition and fragmentation in sound. While doing his Greek Acid Exarchaeia remix Dhangsha was thinking about the Athens district of Exarchaiea populated by Artists, Anarchists and Anti-fascists. This imbued the remix with a sense of militancy, energy and defiance. Dhangsha’s frequencies are always political. The remix is mastered by Ramjac at HMVS, London.

Greek Acid follows up on Gavana’s previous EPs Malaga Nights, Culture Vulture and Vicious Vibrations, which were played by Swedish National Radio’s ”Elektroniskt i P2” and covered by Johanna Paulsson, one of Sweden’s main music reviewers (Sonic #68, 2013). The track El Andaluz from Malaga Nights became a hit in Colombia (!) and the EP was listed as ”hot pick” by Sattelite Records in New York. With this new release, Gavana continues her mission as a driving force in the Swedish electronic music scene:

Release date November 28, release party at Club Sintetizator (at Time Bar in Hornstull/ Stockholm). The EP will be aired for the first time by Swedish National Radio/ P2 Elektroniskt.

The Shepherd

Swedish electronica duo Pufferfisk releases its second EP on label Meerkat Recordings, “We are Pufferfisk”. Influenced by their Greek roots and French duo Acid Arab, Pufferfisk has composed futuristic electro and techno for dancefloors as well as headphones.

The album follows up Pufferfisk’s earlier EP Bolero from 2016 as well as their 2017 album Retrofututismo, which sparkled with 80s italo influences, synthesizer hedonism and spanish robot voices.

The italo/synth/ electronica-duo Pufferfisk consists of Gavana (Anna Gavanas) and Aimnbreak (Peter Eriksson). Influenced by synth pioneers Laserdance, Jean Michael Jarre och Fancy, Pufferfisk was founded in 2011.

On Greek Dub EP, Gavana (Anna Gavanas) has digged even deeper for her roots in Greek rebetiko music. Rebetiko is an urban working class and migrant music style from Athens /Piraeus from the beginning of the 1900s. On the laid-back and sunny Rebetissa dub, Gavana samples a phone conversation with her father -- rebetissa being the female version of the Greek word rebetis, which refers to someone who embodies rebetiko subculture.

The track Before dawn dub was composed by Gavana in Stockholm during the summer of 2020, in exile from Greece. In lockdown with a huge stash of rebetiko records she is reflecting on crisis, perseverance, kick ass times and the healing power of music.

Gavana has been making music since 2008 and Greek Dub is her fifth EPs on the Swedish label Meerkat Recordings. Greek Dub follows up on Gavana’s 2019 EP Greek Acid. Like her previous EPs Malaga Nights, Culture Vulture and Vicious Vibrations, Greek Acid was played by Swedish National Radio’s ”Elektroniskt i P2”. The track El Andaluz from Malaga Nights became a hit in Colombia (!) and the EP was listed as ”hot pick” by Satellite Records in New York. Greek Acid has also been featured as soundtrack for the book “Från Diskofeber till Rejvhysteri” by Anna Gavanas – as well as the current exhibition “Everybody Dance,” which will run for two years at Scenkonstmuseet (Swedish Museum of Performing Arts) in Stockholm, Trondheim and Helsinki.

As a producer, Gavana comes from a non-stop DJ mission since the 1990s: immersed in endless musical explorations forwards, backwards and sideways. Having lived through numerous phases, club cultures and cities -- in Stockholm, New York, Amsterdam, Chicago, Leeds and London -- she is influenced by Greek Rebetiko, Laïko, Epyrotiko and Tsifteleli as well as a broad range of styles
between garage/ house/ techno and dub.
