Shiftin Beatz are back again and we are kicking off the new year in serious style! We've got together with Eazy and chose a select few of his massive catalogue of 2013 releases to be reworked by a select few artists that are currently taking the jump up dnb scene by storm. With a little flavour for everyone this is the ep you've all been waiting for. Containg reworks of some of the bggest jump up anthems of 2013. You've heard them out live, nows the time to grab them for yourself. Dropping on Monday 13th January 2014 this is a serious contender of a release, which will ensure us all at Shiftin Beatz HQ to go even harder as the year draws on.

The second of our two Evil Entities remixes comes from none other than Soundbully audio bossman Jayline. After featuring massive tracks from his collection throughout our 2013 calendar we decided to get him on board for this remix ep. Giving an alternative to the Limited rework, this one in typical Jayline fashion decimates the dance with non stop high energy levels and both high and low ends dominating across the track. 32 bars to build towards the destruction that is a Jayline drop, and as usual the dnb pioneer does nothing but impress. So whether you want a calm build or an all out crazy stomper, this ep has a flavour for everyone.

The ‘Warpath’ LP from Maztek set a precedent and not just for him as an artist. It proved that independent figures can break out on their own and in doing so, can deliver cutting edge music through their own platform, garnering just as much support from the entire drum & bass as they would have done on a more mainstay imprint. And the ‘Warpath’ LP was also significant because of the fact that it was used to launch Maztek’s 0101 Records platform, which has since gone on to host many artists who are acting as pillars of the wider scene, bringing fresh sounds to the table and delivering the upfront music which has come under Maztek’s radar.
It’s these same artists who are about to take the ‘Warpath’ LP into another dimension, drawing from its original track list and offering their own versions of Maztek’s production. From the hectic world of Merikan, who draws for his signature through his rework of ‘The Dirt’, through the take on Maztek’s ‘Come Closer’ by Insomniax, there’s a range of producers who are brought into the fray to present the album from their own worlds. Trio Inward, Hanzo and Randie get their hands on collaboration ‘Gladiators’ featuring Gridlok, whilst ‘Pandemonium’ is given the VIP treatment by Maztek. Disprove follows in quick succession with his twist on the title-track alongside Ben Verse. Korsakov stalwart Droptek draws ‘It’s On’ with Virus Syndicate into his own sonic landscape and historic drum & bass figure Optiv introduces listeners to his reimagining of ‘What You Got’. MC Mota’s vocals are taken into a new frame by Synth Ethics with ‘The Breaker’ and Kiril then has his turn on Maztek & Aeph’s ‘Trajectory’. Up next, relative newcomer Phonetick gives a more lumbering motion to ‘Electronic Warfare’, keeping the same chaotic bass riffs as the original with Redpill and Maztek’s expert manufacturing.
For one final time on 0101 Records, Signs remixes ‘Cheeky Dub’ and highlights why they were such a formidable force before their split. Then RedPill makes another appearance although this time through his own rendition of ‘Shake the Foundation’. Then before the appearance of Insomniax, Current Value delivers his manic patches of synthesis across ‘Timeless’.
As the remix album closes, it signifies just how far Maztek has come as a producer. From his beginnings on some of the most pivotal labels, through to setting up his own, he’s made his mark. With the team he now has at his fingertips, he proves this is something which will continue years from the creation of 0101

It was nighttime again. The girl hated nighttime, for its ability to warp even the most innocuous of shapes into sinister forms was the bane of her fragile psyche. As dusk fell and her family trundled off to sleep, she found herself drifting into the same familiar cycle of psychosis, wherein she would find not the rest and respite which others gained from sleep but rather a fight for survival against the forces of her mind. Knowing this, the girl sighed, and set to her vigil against the dark. It was always the same no matter what she did. She would stay up long into the morning’s early hours, under the blessing of electric light until the same useless body that catalyzed her anxious fears began to falter under the weight of passing time, demanding that she submit to the machinations of her own horrific mind. In turning off the lights, she would enter into a second phase, one perhaps most sinister of all, in which the objects of the house sprang to life in the umbral depths of night.

Herein moved shadows with impossible forms, at once standing out from and blending into the darkness that was their home. Try as she might, the girl could not make sense of them, and attempts to do so only seemed to multiply their numbers. They had never harmed her… yet, but she wondered if it was only her utmost devotion to watching their movements that kept them at bay. Worse yet was the fact that sleep would grab hold of her soon, making her vulnerable, easy prey. With lethargic frenzy she would attempt to maintain her watch, following their forms as her eyes closed further and further shut, sliding into the final phase of the night wherein she knew she maintained no control. She feared what awaited her there, the nightmares, the horrors, her worst anxieties on longest held fears brought into a facsimile of reality where she was but a helpless target of their terror. The terrors had not hurt her physically, it was true, but as the girl slipped hopelessly into unconsciousness, she wondered at the NEGATIVE THOUGHTS that she would soon face. Perhaps this had been the shadow’s intent all along. Perhaps, unwittingly, she had already become their prey.

TEDDY KILLERZ return to EATBRAIN for their first release of 2020 with the latest EP forged of their horror influenced neurofunk sound. The latest in a series of collaborations between EATBRAIN and TEDDY KILLERZ that stretches back to the label’s very beginnings, the trio once again take position at the fore of the EATBRAIN horde as they bring their all out psycho-sonic assault to EATBRAIN listeners worldwide.

Based out of Linz, north Austria, Martin Schober is a singular protagonist at the forefront of this beguiling game we call drum & bass. He likes hip-hop, skateboarding, schnitzel, Leibniz biscuits and long walks in the sunset, but he’s most respected for how he traipses across electronic music’s wildest terrains with total boundary abandonment… And is regarded as a leading influential new-gen figure in the genre. 

From his agenda-setting halftime twist of ‘Sunday Crunk’ to his rolling, emotional collabo cameo on Camo & Krooked’s acclaimed album ‘Mosaik’. From his entrance into the Fabriclive mix hall of fame with a mix album comprising entirely of his own productions (‘Fabriclive 95’) to his Drum&BassArena Award-winning debut album ‘Emulation’, Mefjus’s signature sound has been felt across the furthest expanses of the genre since he emerged in the early 2010s. 

Now working closely with Vision - the label run by kindred studio spirits Noisia - Mefjus continues to fine-tune his musical syntax, technical dexterity, eye for detail and deft groove sensibilities. The latest chapter to savour this on-going flux of development is his second album ‘Manifest’.

Released April 2018, ‘Manifest’ is the sound of Mefjus 2.0. After several years in the studio wilderness, exploring the dark science of song structure, musicality and textural contrasts, ‘Manifest’ captures a new mindset for Mefjus. Raw, energetic, playful and subversive, ‘Manifest’ is the most personal, diverse and daring body of work to date. Not so much as reminder of why he occupies such a unique position in drum & bass but a straight-up statement of intent.
