Newton Abbot resident Bare Up aka Daniel Harwood has been producing electronic dance music in one form or another for the last 10 years. The young producer has a distinctive and recognisable style, composed of energetic, full-fat sounds, suspenseful compositions and firm measure of aural grit. With a back catalogue spanning an array of eye-catching labels including Informal, Radar, Pick ‘n’ Mix and of course Belgium's own Rampage. He bursts onto the Soulvent stage with a colossal 3-track EP titled ‘Not Slipping’. The British producer delivers a high octane glimpse into the vigorous nature of his musical output, featuring the vocals of a true veteran of the UK scene in the form of Harry Shotta. 

Opener ‘Not Slipping’ doesn’t waste a second to get going, delivering electrifying, guitar-like synths and thundering, beefy drums straight out of the gate. All this bubbling energy provides a fitting home for Harry’s high-energy, machine gun grasp of the English language. The rousing words of the heavyweight-wordsmith's verse provide an anthemic quality to this fizzing, shape thrower of a track. 

‘Bloom’ on the other hand begins as a slightly more subtle affair, with cascading keys and warm bass leading in big, brittle beats and a foreboding sense of unease. Delivering with his notably large approach to beats, the drop is a resonant assault on the senses and certainly not for the faint of heart!

DJ Rowney steps in to switch up the album’s ending track “Bittersweet” with an “in ya face” wallop of party vibes. This one’s a reach for the ceiling type of track that’ll also make you shake a leg on the dancefloor.

Just behind, comes a beautifully re-recorded version of “Audio Vandalism” by Hungarian producer Puppetz. Delivering a simple but effective bouncy stomper, that includes a subtle taste of the original funk.

Next up, our label is proud to introduce the lads from Puerto Rico known as CPTL PNSHMNT. They turn the tables by delivering a hard-hitting neuro killer remix of “Shells”. This one’s sure to deliver the fist pump!

And finally, to wrap this whole release up, Too Greezey delivers a hard-hitting jungle refix of “Can’t Run Away”. Sounding the foghorns and closing the final piece of the puzzle.

As if the original wasn't enough of a killer, Mindscape rounds out the release with a remix of Qo and Nuklear MC's 'Killcode' - a gem from Tales of the Undead LP. Fast, pounding low-end and aggressive, hypnotic vocals from Nuklear make Mindscape's take on 'Killcode' a visceral experience...to say the least.

Drum & bass stalwarts Black Sun Empire are to follow up a trio of recent EPs from The Upbeats, Neonlight and Pythius with the release of ‘Until The World Ends’ - a five-track, collaborative EP with NZ duo State Of Mind. To be released on January 26th via their genre-defining Blackout imprint, it marks an exciting start to 2015.

Lead track ‘Ego’ immediately sets the tone with growling bass lines and punchy synth-stabs that underpin dark, techy atmospherics and vocal loops.

Second track ‘Until The World Ends’ proves once again both acts’ enduring versatility - kicking off with a bass-heavy dubstep tones complimented by vocal duties from State Of Mind’s fellow New Zealander PNC, before

switching to a manic, intelligently structured groove for the remainder.

‘Bad’ opens with progressive percussion and softly-worked synths that move euphorically to a pounding drum break, whilst fourth track ‘Jack Nicholson’, featuring an imitable sample of the man himself, is a bass-fuelled shockwave of a track. Final track.

‘Moonbox’ closes the EP in true Blackout fashion, with signature frenetic beats and firing drums rounding off proceedings in style.

Black Sun Empire have built a reputation for curating their own brand of dark, neurofunk-inspired drum & bass over the past 12 months and this collaboration with long term accomplices State Of Mind - whom released their latest album ‘Eat The Rich’ via the label earlier this year - feeds into the hype surrounding Blackout as the label looks ahead to 2015.

He likes hip-hop, skateboarding, schnitzel, Leibniz biscuits and long walks in the sunset, but he’s most respected for how he traipses across electronic music’s wildest terrains with total boundary abandonment… And is regarded as a leading influential new-gen figure in the genre. 

From his agenda-setting halftime twist of ‘Sunday Crunk’ to his rolling, emotional collabo cameo on Camo & Krooked’s acclaimed album ‘Mosaik’. From his entrance into the Fabriclive mix hall of fame with a mix album comprising entirely of his own productions (‘Fabriclive 95’) to his Drum&BassArena Award-winning debut album ‘Emulation’, Mefjus’s signature sound has been felt across the furthest expanses of the genre since he emerged in the early 2010s. 

Now working closely with Vision - the label run by kindred studio spirits Noisia - Mefjus continues to fine-tune his musical syntax, technical dexterity, eye for detail and deft groove sensibilities. The latest chapter to savour this on-going flux of development is his second album ‘Manifest’.

Released April 2018, ‘Manifest’ is the sound of Mefjus 2.0. After several years in the studio wilderness, exploring the dark science of song structure, musicality and textural contrasts, ‘Manifest’ captures a new mindset for Mefjus. Raw, energetic, playful and subversive, ‘Manifest’ is the most personal, diverse and daring body of work to date. Not so much as reminder of why he occupies such a unique position in drum & bass but a straight-up statement of intent.
