Fear

I haven’t told my friends 
that I like to walk with my bare feet.
They don’t know how it feels
To meet the kiss of many blades of grass reaching across your skin

I suppose it is an odd notion
That the earth might want us too,
To feel the cuts around my calluses,
and think she just might be trying to hold on to me.

It’s better to remember those injuries,
where she was calling to my human nature,
than to recall the ones I’ve earned
Tip-toeing on kitchen knives and eggshells

I haven’t told my friends
That I love to walk on my bare feet
Because I don’t know how to show them
How to feel Everything. 

I like to wander from to place to place
looking for souls mad with joy, looking for the living.

Looking for someone to come with me

I’m just a vagabond, looking for a home

That I wander on my bare feet,
To feel the snow crunch in the sub-zero cold,
To feel the burning on my soles. To feel the burning in my soul.

I like to feel the turning of the world
Because feeling isn’t just human, it’s nature.
If I might step on some jagged rocks along the way
At least I’ll know that I’ve known pain.

I can’t explain it to my friends
They’re all ghosts, changing by the season
How do I explain that I feel the world through my feet
When you can fly, or float, or levitate?

I couldn’t explain it to my friends,
because those words would have no meaning.
