The project explored the theme of Protest Past and Present on several levels. The phrase 'Do not listen to my voice' deals with the projection of the human voice, both in the literal sense and metaphorical sense. What we hear, or choose to listen to is particularly controlled by chance, as the moving chant is perceived in different acoustic spaces. However, it is also controlled by the exploitation of the text, where tone and inflection are used to imbue multiple layers of meaning. As the chant moves through the gallery, it becomes politicised by the surrounding material, highlighting the role that protest and the right of speech has had on the way we perceive and define the world we live in.

Megan Tarpey is a pianist and composer from the North West of England. She received a distinction in her Instrumental and Vocal Composition MA at the University of Manchester. Megan’s compositional style includes the use of traditional ensembles along with technology to create an entirely new landscape.

Megan teaches piano and music theory along with composing for film as a self-employed musician. She received her Music Degree at Liverpool Hope University where her work was workshopped and performed by members of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. After working at a record label based in MediaCityUK, she has gained knowledge in music business areas such as streaming, artist campaigns, social media, marketing and distribution.
