Episode 493 brings us a mix from REO! This mix is fresh off her trip to play Pete Cannon's party in Amsterdam and right before her Rupture debut on May 20th!

This mix is VIBES, beautiful, soulful tunes, atmospherics, and jazzy, drumfunk dominates the first half of this mix! The second half rolls out with jazzy steppers, techstep, and some crunchy amen bangers!! REO coming through with the wicked selection on this one!!

1. Tell us about upcoming gigs you are excited about

This Saturday I’m playing Rupture- the biggest drum and bass label and party in the UK pushing out an authentic jungle / drum and bass sound reminiscent of the old school sound. On the lineup is Lemon D, one of my favourite artists ever, it feels unreal to be playing alongside him, particularly as I’ve only been DJing for 2 years. It feels like I’ve snuck my way onto the lineup, playing Rupture alongside my inspirations Lemon D, Dgohn, Forest Drive West, Tasha, is something I’d expect to be doing in maybe over 5 years, not now. Absolutely unreal.


2. Who are the top artists in drum and bass and jungle that you’re rinsing during your sets?

I tend to focus on what the journey of a mix is, and play a lot of white labels, so oftentimes the artists I’m playing are an afterthought, it’s not something I actively think about and incorporate. However, when digging for new tunes or just to add to my collection, I look for 4Hero, Lemon D, Photek, Ed Rush. I’m more concerned with labels and sounds than artists. When playing digitally however, I am lucky to have the privilege of playing dubs from my friends and acquaintances, who I feel are reviving the true jungle sound, or rebirthing it with touches of modernity that create a completely new field of sound. These producers include Zeldin, Cheetah, MIDRIB, Guido YZ, Universal Paradigm, amongst many others.


3. If you inherited 1 million pounds, what would you do with the money?

If I inherited 1 million pounds, I’d buy a building to be used as “Happiness HQ”, an idea I’ve had formulated for a while now. Happiness HQ would be an extension of the community I am building- Happiness Starts Dancing. The HQ would be a space for myself and the rest of the team to use as an office space so we can organise ideas more fluidly, as well as providing free studio space in any kind of arts for anyone to use, regardless of age or any other factor. The money would buy computers, software and hardware for making music. I’m not sure how big 1 million actually is, but if there was any money left over after this, I’d buy a second building entitled “Dancing HQ”, which would be a cafe and communal social space where there would be tunes and food running 24/7. There would be no pressure to buy anything, and there would be a dance floor at all times, meaning there is a space for people to enjoy music and movement without the pressures of nightlife and club culture. Food would be available at all times, so the ravers never go hungry or lose nutrition. Hopefully I could find a good deal and buy a building with a garden so we can host day parties. The space inside would also be used as a community hall, running book clubs and workshops dedicated to establishing a sense of community and sharing knowledge.
