Tekstura is a series of instrumental piano compositions coloured with textures.

With the aim of combining melody and sonic texture deriving solely from the piano, the project started life as an investigation into sustaining tones using electronic bows on the piano strings.

From these early experiments it expanded organically to incorporate a wider musical palette.

Three singles The Noise He Kept So Quiet, Ostranenie and Prelude in E minor were digitally released in 2020.

The album, Tekstura, will be released in 2021 through London based label Blurred Recordings.

Reflective and intimate in nature Piano Tekstura takes inspiration from the piano itself, the urban environment and early cinema.

I returned to the piano after the loss of my brother and wrote "Just", a tribute. It was the first piece I wrote for my felt piano album "Being in Time". The other pieces from the album followed from a similar place, and serve as a kind of expression of my first experience with true loss, the grieving process, and ultimately trying to make sense out of this thing, which ironically feels so utterly unnatural. Recorded in the living room of the house we grew up in.

Influenced by the likes of Dustin O’Halloran, Ólafur Arnalds, Max Richter and other neo-classical giants, Meg's piano compositions are truly a blend of old and new. Her style is deliberate and visceral, weaving rich narratives through measured shifts in movement and dynamics. She oftentimes implements a melody-driven discipline in composition, whereby the central theme of a piece takes an unrivaled lead and establishes the character or mood with which to build around. This is not to say that Meg’s work is minimalist; she isn’t afraid to take a piece somewhere unexpected or furnish it with complementary layers. Rather, she doesn’t let harmony or instrumentation overshadow the main communication of her work, which is to be found in the melody.
