Kool Aid (Acoustic)

My inspiration for TO was breath. 
Specifically, the minuscule moment of time that we experience e.g. in a concert. The moment of silence just before the musician plays their first note - all of the potential energy that is held in that moment, the inhale of breath. And then, the moment of silence, an exhale, after they have played their final note, but before the audience might applause - the release of that energy. I find these moments addictive, much like when cycling/driving over a bridge, that tiny, lifting moment you are held in before you go down the other side. 
The first section of TO is the inhale, the second is the exhale and the General Pause (following the chaotic string section) is the ephemeral moment - the potential and release of energy meeting. There are several melodies that come to the surface throughout the piece - however much like the swimming of emotions that do not always serve us in the moment, these melodies are acknowledged then let go of. Deep belly breath, exhalation. My intention with this piece was to create a space in time where we might be able to experience this, that TO might allow the audience member, or musician, to sink into the music, and indulge in the peaceful power of breath.

A little duet we managed to record while in separate parts of the country by recording each part individually and layering so forgive us that the quality isn't perfect!

I recorded this by myself at home and I'm a complete amateur when it comes to recording/mixing so please forgive the audio quality :)

Meghan Murray is an Irish R&B Pop singer-songwriter.

Born in Belgium to a South African mother and Irish father, Meghan moved to Cork in 2014 to start her undergraduate degree in music at UCC. In the summer of 2017, she started writing her own music and the following year, she recorded her debut EP "Out of Mind" in Monique Studios.

Her candid reflections on relationships are delivered in a fresh and unique style combining elements of Pop, Soul and R&B. Her music has been described as "sophisticated R&B pop" (Niall Byrne, Irish Times) and she has been praised as "an artist with highly stylised sound with a voice to carry it" (Stephen White, The Last Mixed Tape). 

Meghan is also included in Niall Byrne's Irish Times article "New artists of the week: Great Irish acts to love in 2019" as one of 36 Irish artists to watch for in 2019.
 Her debut singles "Space" and "Broken Ladders”—out on all streaming platforms—are taken from her upcoming EP "Out of Mind” which will be out later this year.
