Most of Dan's earliest memories are associated with music. He remembers hearing Both Sides Now & Mrs. Robinson when he was 2. In the late 60s, Dan asked his mom what acid rock was.  She told him it was bad music that hippies played, and according to Reader's Digest, acid rock was even known to kill plants exposed to it. The result: Dan was intrigued by the mysterious power of acid rock. In his own search for new sounds, Dan began banging on musical instruments in 1970. At this time his Kindergarten teacher asked him to please put down the marching symbols after he repeatedly crashed them together in an effort to lead his first band. In 1972, Dan took up classical piano to no avail.  

By the late 70s, Dan picked up a borrowed Gene Autry western guitar. With a chord chart, a turntable & The Ventures  "$1,000,000 Weekend" LP, Dan caught the jamming bug. 

Dan's first band was Black Gold, formed with several high-school buddies. This 50s cover band won 2nd-place in his school talent show. Other nascent musical ventures , Ultra Man & One Way, followed. In college, Dan & his 12-year-old drummer brother, Harry, played numerous beer parties. Sometimes the brothers would play for 6 hours straight, leaving Dan's left hand frozen in the fretting position. All was not in vain during these drunken college bashes, as Dan impressed his future wife, Katie, while playing classic rock covers for drunk coeds.

In the 80s, Dan began exploring multi-track recording & experimental music, the later facilitated by an ARP Odyssey synth. This led to some bizarre live performance-art pieces & art show openings during college. During the late 80s, Dan played bass in a country-rock band, Cactus Jack, helping him learn how to dodge flying beer bottles & pack up band gear at 3AM.

After college, Dan, brother Harry & several other locals in the Reading, PA area (Ben Yeager, Mike Kost & Larry Frankhouser) continued improv jams & playing live shows, notably several scary gigs at Pagans MC gang rallies. Dan became an archaeologist & got a job at the University of Delaware. There Dan dove into the Newark, DE music scene (1989), forming the original alternative band Damonkon. Members of Damonkon were Mike Lenert, Andy Bowser, Dave Silverman, Mark Murphy, Jay Hodny & Harry Bailey. All of the members of Damonkon were archaeologists, which heavily influenced their music & lyrics. Damonkon often shared the stage with other alt-psych bands: Zen Guerilla, Hai Karate/Al Duval, Raymond Listen, Token Whiteboy, FVK/Bob Varisco, Caterpillar, etc. In 1991, Damonkon was voted by the music press as Delaware’s "Most Original Band”. Various experimental iterations of Damonkon existed, including Brownstar & Cliff. Damonkon also had a cover band version known as Powderfinger, which played exclusively songs written & performed by people named 'Neil' - Young, Diamond & Sedaka. 

In 1993, all of the archaeologists in Damonkon were laid off & that chapter ended. Suffice it to say that during the mid 80s to mid 90s, Dan lived the rock-&-roll lifestyle, which was no good for his physical, mental or spiritual health. After a long period of abusing his body with drugs & alcohol, Dan truly encountered God & began the prodigal son trip back to the Father. During a near-death drug-overdose on a bathroom floor, Dan experienced the miraculous power of the one living God, though His Son, Jesus Christ. Now a child of God thanks Jesus’ sacrifice, Dan directs a youth praise band at the Journey Cafe in Hamburg, PA. He also plays guitar & keys for Zion's Church. Dan has played in various Christian bands including, Daniel's Prayer, 6 Cents Flat & Encounter. He hopes to write a psychedelic rock opera about the Book of Revelation some day.  

Dan still writes & performs alternative music, most notably Funner Hoag with Randy Hamlin & Harry Bailey and its 1998 prophetic rock opera: Clone.  Dan also does pure improvisational music, noise music and psychedelic rock projects & performances.
