This is my recording from Friday night Room 2, 12:30-2am, my first time being at the mythical Free Rotation. Playing one of the first sets & seeing the room, decor and the big bad subs of Room 2, years of fantastical lore and reality melded, I wanted to keep it sexy, wonky, trippy— imagining a psychic electric swamp and how one would levitate thru it... to the sky. No bpm trickery this time. Out to the heavenly bodies of the universe! ;)

It was my first Draaimolen and no one knew it which was great. 
It was also my first encounter with Addit Audio and their sound system installed for the first time in its full glory. I can't recall being brought to tears during one soundcheck.
So there were no news, no algorithms, no expectations to be disappointed. The pit was not announced. It felt like a curious manifestation of something paranormal.
Wonderful sound system, records and sweetest weather.  
Those who found us in the small pit in the middle of the forest most likely didn't know what was going on. 
For the most part of the first 5 hours I figured out that it would be great to play for and with the sound guy, playing right and wrong records and figuring out which one sound good. Research and development mission for Addit Audio.
After 5 hours ISAbella joined for a brief back to back session. Everything can happen in the realm of paranormal. Luckily she stayed and we played together for the next 3 hours until the last song, the one for the deceased. Probably as close as it gets to transcendence.

We previously wrote that this guest is a "bass wizard and sonic sorcerer" - this holds true enough, but we might need to brush up on our astrophysics to accommodate ADAB's expansive, space-time-traversing flow. A seasoned selector with an incredible range of emotive and kinetic rhythmic directions, ADAB's deft dancefloor work is trained by a zig-zagging dance music trajectory from front-of-house to behind the scenes, front door to behind the booth, from DIY corners to polished clubland. They have brought a real artist's vision to Philadelphia's roster of talent, and it's a pleasure to welcome them back.

"Pablo’s set was the best thing I’ve heard in a while. Didn’t know him before, had no idea what to expect. What we got was a proper tour de force of different genres, tempos, structures and, yes, storytelling (it’s a thing). Slick ghetto house, crazy footwork, UKG, certified bangers (*could have been one, could have been two, could have been three*) - you name it, he served it.

But what really set the set apart (you see what I did there) were the fresh ideas how to put all that shit together – like when he casually mixed an endless loop of that pre-drop swarm-of-bees part  from Joy O’s “flight fm” into his own track. I even had to go and check the players if it was some edit, but nope, mixed right there on the spot. That's how he achieved that mysterious “you get them where you want” state. He created the vibe and eased the crowd into it, which then got super receptive to his experiments as evidenced by all the oohs and aaahs and hurrahs (I might have provided some). That last part also made me realize that Pablo must be the sweetest guy ever – you could see how genuinely thankful and happy he was for all the positive feedback. Top shit, all around."

This was the opening track from my first live set in my hometown, Johannesburg 🇿🇦, at The Wild Side. I wanted to set the tone for the night, deep, driving, and full of anticipation. I laid a Lazarusman vocal over the intro to bring the energy in slow and build the crowd into the journey ahead.
