Ultramajic goes for the jugular with the second chapter of its Metaphysix series after Aden and Creepy Autograph's first installment won over many new hearts in 2013 (particularly with the much-buzzed about "Whip") while keeping existing acolytes very happy.

Inspired in equal parts by legends of early Detroit music and arcane philosophical-religious concepts, these are savage drum tracks slimmed down to their meanest and leanest states - dance music at an elemental level, pure rhythmic bliss that would do past drum machine wizards like Plastikman very proud while sitting nicely alongside modern operations like Night Slugs' Club Constructions series. It's no surprise, then, that Night Slugs co-founder L-Vis 1990 makes an appearance here under his Dance System alias with the rugged "RZ1", effortlessly bridging the gap between forward UK styles and vintage Detroit soul. Matrixxman steps up to the plate in a big way with the hard drum rolls of "Simulation" and two different incarnations of the jacking, rimshot-crazy "Stop It". Creepy Autograph is back for his second appearance in the Metaphysix series with a ferocious remix of "Simulation" while Lando (formerly Lando Kal) rounds things out with "Loveplay", adding soulful vox and bouncing synths to the machinelike motif.

All in all this a lethal set of no-frills, drum machine-inspired workouts that demonstrate the "less is more" maxim with sterling results, revealing each artist to be a virtuoso of rhythm and Edgar to be a consummate curator. Complete with magickal cover art by Jimmy Edgar and Pilar Zeta reportedly made while traveling in Egypt, there is indeed much magic to be mesmerized by here.

BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix - Marcel Dettmann

We’ve got a bit of a special treat for you here today, Arkitect’s massive remix of ‘Paramilitary’ from Music For Your Plants’ Humanity EP. Music For Your Plants are a new lifestyle option for lifted souls, we have spoken about them before. Arkitect is one of the brains behind Private Selection, a label that launched last year with a hot compilation featuring Vin Sol, Dreams and Jean Nippon. Arkitect’s contribution was a slick funk deconstruction, reminiscent of Girl Unit circa Club Rez. But while the Private Selection compilation aligned itself with a more rugged 4/4 framework, this track is pure FOTN magic, rearranging MFYP’s deep forest anthem into a shattered grime banger. The track oscillates between serene glades and dense, tense square wave hell but manages to maintain the ethereal vibe that makes the original so affective. It’s worth checking out pretty much everything that everyone involved in this track has done, and we greatly look forward to what they have in store for us in the future. That artwork tho!

Anyone familiar with the long-running and highly-revered Fabric mix series will know that next up is Swiss maestro Deetron and after several listens to his compilation we can confirm that it's an absolute masterclass.

One of the exclusive and brand new tracks within the comp is by another prolific Swiss talent and it doesn't matter what alias Ripperton uses, every one is as technically proficient as the last.

His new track 'Searching 4 U' falls in the first half of Deetron's mix and is sandwiched in-between hefty cuts from Redshape and Greg Beato. As one of the stand-out tracks of the CD we're thrilled to be able premiere the track in full.

Charles Andre, aka Charles Fenkler is a young and talented French producer with a passion for techno and is set for his much anticipated second release with Soma. Bolstering on support roused in the underground techno scene from his well-received debut Anklam, Fenckler brings his signature fast-faced percussion in his deep and powerful techno tracks. He may be young but he continues to prove his knowledge and passion, merging influences from Europe and Detroit. Definitely one to watch as one of the Soma new breed 

Fenckler doesn’t mess about as title track Program starts off with all guns blazing. A powerful kick steadily thumps away as a mechanised lead welds this track together, straight up hi hats, rides and further stripped back percussion add to this dance floor monster.

The hypnotising Function drops next as Fenckler shows once again that less is definitely more. Looped out, ringing toms glide across another ferocious kick as the ever so slight delay across the rhythm make this a fast paced Detroit reminiscent track.

Subject Perform finishes the EP off in just the right way; by taking things up another notch! Fenckler creates great tension throughout this closing track, slowly releasing the arsenal of sounds at his disposal, again opting for a minimalistic approach to his production.
