YANG (feat. David Sylvian)

‘Voice’ is replete with space, a nocturnal void into which chimes fall and playful piano melodies tumble. The beat sways, a minimalist sashay into darkness, while Noah’s vocal almost whispers, singing as if telling you a secret.

Directly helping Noah to hone the sound which eventually became 2019’s Étoile, her most recent album Noire is a collection of past tracks created between 2015-2020. Through jazz-inflected piano loops and a lo-fi vaporwave sound, alongside carefully considered beats, Noah’s latest album showcases the joy of finding freedom in staying up late into the night, and the introspection that comes with it.

The far-off piano in ‘Gemini — Mysterious Lot’ is captivating enough, but add to that the late-night strings, bubbling bass and energetic percussion, and it seems that Noah has created an instant classic for an after-dark atmosphere.

Pulse (étude de Rythme) a d'abord existé sous la forme d'une pièce plus longue dédiée à la chorégraphie de Jérôme Brabant et Maud Pizon, intitulée "A Taste of Ted". Plus tard, j'en ai fait une version resserrée et accélérée, ce qui donne cette version 1. Entre-temps, une nouvelle version, définitive, a été créée au théâtre de Laval. French composer Melaine Dalibert has before quoted Deleuze, referring to his own compositional practice as working on (and with) the behaviour or "space-time blocks". Here his philosophy unravels specific to the covid-19 pandemic; a beautifully spare and minimalist solo piano work, taking the form of a 20-minute long rallentendo which reflects the drop in tension that we are experiencing.
