Welcome to 2024 and a new episode of Hello Dark.  While this is not the darkest of dark episodes it does sound pretty wicked thanks to the spotlight of the mix - Teej.

Teej is Bristol based and has releases on, well, a LOT of labels.  He has released on Sofa Sound, 31 Recordings, Flexout, OCC, Trust Audio and more.  His productions are razor sharp with intelligent sound design and dark, sometimes minimal grooves.  Check out his music on SC @teejdnb

Raket's first EP on Ion Drive features two pressurized powder kegs. Relentless atmospherics, bass growls and sound efx don't let up as the tension builds and builds under a barrage of Techstep Breakbeats and subsonic bass bombs. 
Concrete Bed and Rust Bucket are two forward thinking works of modern Techstep.

After a brief pause Codename: RCRDS return to the second part of our ‘Broken’ trilogy, and bringing together a selection of newcomers to the label.  Separated by geography but united by the rhythms of jungle and drumfunk, the release takes to four different corners of the genre as we move between darkness and light, playfulness and intensity over the course of the release to discover the Broken Tribes. 

The EP opens with Brownsville’s breakbeat maestro Krugah, with ‘Simple Ting’ providing a stunning example of his unique and creative style.  Marvel Cinema joins the fray with ‘Endless Energy’, full of frantic drum edits which provide a counterpoint to the dreamy house-inflected vocals and pads.  The 2nd half of the EP moves into a darker direction with Jack Rapture’s amen choppage skills at the fore on the deep and introspective ‘Why Are We Here?’, before E.B.S. closes the release with the intense ‘Aftermath’, interspersing dark distorted bass tones and dubwise vocals with tearing amens and moody synths.

We also have a classic tune from @extime 'RollWithThePunches' does just that- it's a ballistic roller and is pristinely produced...

Cadenzo @deluxe-83 should not be slept on either...  Several of his tracks make an appearance here, with 'Stoic Hook' being a dance floor WMD.  It's ridiculously well crafted and I can't wait to hear what 2024 has in store for him.

There are a lot of great tracks in this mix, and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did making it.
