Theo Parrish grew up on Chicago house parties. He went to art school in Kansas City, and then moved to Detroit. His eclectic DJ sets in Detroit in the late ’90s and early in this millennium are legendary. 

“Love of the music should be the driving force of any producer, performer or DJ. Everything else stems from that core, that love. With that love, sampling can become a tribute; An expansion on ideas long forgotten, reconstruction, collage. Using the same understanding openly and respectfully can turn DJing into a spiritual participation. It can turn a few hours of selection into essential history; Necessary listening through movement.” This personal philosophy gives shape and direction to the distinctive sounds that are created by Theo Parrish. It is not everyday we are sent a 5 hour mix from someone we have asked to join our Phonica mix series; but when Sheffield & Manchester legend Luke Una sends one… you have to jump straight into it! Having become first recognised in the late 80’s and 90’s as one half of production team “The Unabombers” with Justin Crawford, Luke over the years has shown to be a master in all genres be it Balearic, to Brazilian to E soul, House, Disco and Techno, you name it! With his Worldwide FM show over the years gaining a cult following Luke has gained an even more of a broader crowd from his curation of his E Soul Cultura compilation series via the label Mr.Bongo (Both comps topping our EOY lists in 2022 and 2023). This exact vast taste (that is displayed in these compilations) is very much pummelled into this five hour journey of a mix like a piece of clay and sculpted into a fine piece of art. Standing strong through 4 decades of music, we welcomed his É Soul Cultura takeover for a 6 hour session at The Bowl.

Co founder of the iconic UK club Electric Chair and founder of Manchester's much loved and long standing queer party, Homoelectric, alongside his label and event series E Soul Cultura, Luke has consistently remained at the forefront of a young dynamic forward thinking scene.

From  the momentous legacy of Sheffield and Manchesters musical heritage through the 80s and 90s Luke reworked 4 decades of dance through a distinctive futuristic lens into an alchemy that traverses from  spiritual jazz, slo mo chugging cosmic soul, Balearic Bossa to dance floor astral Jazz dance to the deepest House and Techno and bass buggin futurism, Afro and black heart deep Disco.

The main idea behind this mix was to create a soothing, positive sonic landscape to help me clear my mind. The mix avoids going into abstract or darker territories, and in my opinion has a rather friendly vibe to it.

Fritz Ta is a Philly-born, Asian-American DJ driven and inspired by his adventures and explorations in the underground music scene. His sets can range from chill deep house to dirty ghetto tech to hypnotic, energetic pulsing techno but you can always expect them to tell a weird story and make you want to move and groove your body in strange ways.

As co-founder of @mashtnyc, he and a collective of fellow local DJ's and artists seek to contribute the warm fuzzy vibes and profound effects that varying forms techno and house music have on the soul. The team curates techno-heavy gatherings at Sleepwalk, Jupiter Disco, and Bossa Nova Civic Club in Brooklyn as well as a MASHT NYC podcast featuring local and international guests.
