Lobster Theremin's sublabel Distant Hawaii, which so far seems more house and balearic orientated than its cousin, was featured in our Top 100 2015 with the summery track "Bill Loves You" by Hidden Spheres. The label's second release is the "Secret Island" EP by newcomer and London-based producer Tony Donson aka DJ Sonikku, and it doesn't disappoint! The EP's opener"Land Of Sky" premiered here sets the tone with a tough beat backed by a hopping FM bass, house chords and an overall early 90s feel. Where Are We? » EP from Garrett David and Adam Rowe, the Chicago-based duo who use to cooperate under Bell Boys moniker. It’s their third collaboration after a first EP on Discovery Recordings and a 7’ on Star Creature . Both dj’s and working for Chicago institution Gramaphone Records, Garrett David is a resident at the Smart Bar and Adam Rowe is the graphic designer of S&C. It’s definitely a chicago affair with two skilled connoisseurs of house music. Out now!

Having been around for almost a full calendar year, the sub-label PNP has already made quite the name for itself during the past several months. Managed by producer Fede Lng, this imprint is a spin-off of his already successful parent label Axe On Wax, which is responsible for exposing the world to such artists like Kirk The Flirt, Jesse Bru, Trudge, and Mall Grab.

Although Axe On Wax specializes in a more traditional sense of house music, PNP appears to be all about the disco - a way in which Fede and his friends can release edits of their favorite tunes of old. For DJs looking to spice up their sets with unadulterated funk, look no further than their upcoming record PNP 003, which features songs by Tom Jay, Braga Cicuit, Pacific Bureau, and Fede Lng himself.

The fifth track rounding out the bunch comes from little-known producer Hank Youngman (Hank YM) and is titled Nao Nao. Hailing from Melbourne, Hank seems to have a strong affinity for Marcos Valle's classic Nao Tem Nada Nao. In his edit of the original, Hank simplifies the tune - stripping out many of its lyrics while concentrating on the quintessential Brazilian ad-libs that are present throughout the piece. This manages to give the song a lot of room, allowing Hank to fit in his assortment of looped basslines, guitar riffs, and space-age synths that help transform it into an all-out groove. 

Set to come out sometime this fall, this edit already has us excited to get our hands on a copy of this forthcoming release!

@hugomarimusic is a name that should be new to your ears, but is not one to forget. Today we present a single from Hugo Mari’s debut record, which is to be released on the mighty @heistrecordings on 3rd December 2018. The five-track EP has three originals from the main man Hugo and two remixes on the B-side by none other than NDATL label head Kai Alcé. Previously Hugo had a string of releases as ‘Books’ on a variety of underground labels, including XVI, OMENA and his own label High Praise.  Much to our satisfaction, despite the name change Hugo is still making groovy soulful house jams. The whole EP is first class, and sits right at home on Detroit Swindles Heist Recordings. The track we have the pleasure of presenting is titled ‘Feel Ur Senses’.

The aptly titled B1, which has a repeated vocal chanting the mantra that is the title, is an emotive track that indeed tickles all the right senses. The drawn out chords have an almost sensual appeal which, when paired with the understated bassline, give you a warm and fuzzy feeling. The track continues to evolve with various elements being introduced throughout, such as different types of percussion and a rising lead synth that pairs perfectly with the established motif. Overall it is an expertly arranged piece and a big standout in the EP and as a debut for Hugo's new alias.

North London based Hugo is a busy man, between his time in the studio he’s promoting a night and running a label. Luckily he had some time to answer some questions about his release, production method and his future plans.
