The first piece I composed to be performed by myself. It became very personal, quickly and naturally.

Just Dreaming, I Guess

Weathering is a percussion quartet piece inspired by the poem below. To me the poem is about the solitude, coldness, beauty and fear the deadly Wyoming winters can foment in a person's skin and soul. Parts of the poem are used as descriptions throughout the piece for the musicians of what I'm intending to communicate.  It begins with "During a cold snap like this...." and ends with iterations of "This mountain will kill you" and "Living and dying."

Weathering


During a cold snap like this 
only a fool bathes.  
This mountain will kill you  
by degrees  
and every layer against the cold  
is one more reason  
you might live.  
That sheen of sweat and grease, 
exuded testosterone  and love,  
oiling every vulnerable place,  
could be the difference between  
living and dying.  
Help the sun, 
help the fire,  
and Don't wash it off.

A piece for clarinet and electronics. A piece written and performed by and for myself allowing for self reflection and contemplation on the way we hear and talk to ourselves, the electronics in this piece act as a sounding board illustrating how the words we say to ourselves compound upon each other.
