Not as self aggrandizing as the London scene or as outwardly flamboyant as Manchester’s notoriously underground musical movement, Leeds is all too often Britain’s forgotten city when people are evaluating UK talent and we think that’s a massive shame as it’s discreetly a hotbed of creativity.

Boasting a long and illustrious past, the latest name to come off of the Yorkshire city's conveyor belt of talent is Josh Butler, a man dedicated to dance in more ways than one. One of the new school of the UK house scene we’ve been fans of Josh for a while now, having first featured him on Data Transmission back at the very start of 2013 when he served up a particularly groovy edition of the DT podcast.

Since then Mr. Butler has gone on to forge a fierce reputation in the studio as well as the DJ booth, garnering an international following as fans and critics fall over themselves to tip as as one of the hottest up and coming producers in the game today.

Having already impressed on the likes of Cajual, Skint VIVA and Lost Butler is now about to land on Sante's vaunted Avotre imprint for the release of his new 'Snake Skin' EP. Aimed squarely at the dance floor, the three tracker looks sure to get people thawing out those boogying muscles upon its release this September as Josh showcases just what tech-house can be when the right producer puts his mind to it. Meaty, groovy and dubby in equal measure, this is an EP certainly not to be slept on.

Next up on Emerald City German duo Raumakustik serve up a sonic trip for the senses via ‘Dem A Pree’ with northern talents Patrick Topping and Jey Kurmis onboard to dish out two killer remixes.  
 
Following the huge summer anthem ‘Raider’ which dropped on Hot Creations subsidiary Hot Trax last year, Volker & Seb aka Raumakustik have been gaining an army of fans with releases following on Toolroom, Suara and Formatik. This next release, ‘Dem A Pree’ is a heavy club weapon of the highest order, prompted by dynamic and powerful vocals. “Pree means sticking your nose into someone else’s business,’ they explain. ‘Patrick Topping and Jey Kurmis did just that with our track but in this case it’s a positive thing because their perspectives on sound and vocals made it complete.”
 
Since his first release on Hot Trax back in 2013, Patrick Topping has since become one of the biggest names in the business with an intense touring schedule, a string of successful releases and a prized residency at Jamie’s Paradise night at DC10. Here he spins his signature style into the original with an intoxicating bassline that will shake any dance floor. 
 
Rising star Jey Kurmis has been making a name for himself on labels such as Moon Harbour, VIVa Music and Wow! Recordings since his artist defining EP on Hot Creations last year. Stripping the original back he creates a solid, low slung roller with industrial stabs at the forefront.

Already a firm favourite among influential tastemakers including Pete Tong, Danny Howard and Annie Mac, ‘What’s Going On?’ is set to be one of the summer’s biggest tunes, this is not hyperbole… just wait till you hear it! Denney samples Mekon’s notorious ‘What’s Going On?’ original (released in 2000) for a summer reimagining, certain to cause damage across dance floors everywhere.

‘What’s Going On?’ is abound with bopping bass lines and fiery 909s while retaining the retro feel of Mekon’s original. The result is a high-octane underground cut - complete with the original fly girl style hip hop vocal by Roxanne Shante’. Listen out for a catchy vocal hook and idiosyncratic sound effects that set the track apart from anything else you’ll hear from the underground this year.

UK house & techno DJ/producer Denney hails from the North East of England and rose to underground fame with a number of acclaimed releases on labels like Hot Creations, VIVa Music, Crosstown Rebels, and many more. He is already hailed for his ubiquitous tune ‘Low Frequency’ an acid tinged house music bomb supported by every DJ from London to Ibiza and beyond. His talents as a versatile and energetic DJ have seen him play all over the world: Europe and Australia to America, playing in the world’s most reputed clubs like London’s fabric and DC10 in Ibiza.

With huge support from Radio 1 so early on already, ‘What’s Going On?’ is sure to contend as one of the year’s strongest house and techno tunes.
