Tel Aviv’s Red Axes are one of the most exciting new acts in dance music, with rich sound that is musical, deep, trippy and organic, while remaining precise and lethally effective in the club. The range in their sound is impressive, their talent unmistakeable. They are one of our favourite artists of the year, and this latest record is one of their best yet.

Lead track 'Waiting for a Surprise’ builds around a mid-tempo disco bassline, with tough percussion, and rugged synth stabs, but it’s the eerie and unique sounding vocals of Brazilian collaborator Abrao that bring everything together. This one is a guaranteed bomb for building up, tearing down, peak time or chilling out… an outstanding track in every sense, the kind that force trainspotters to the DJ booth to discover what’s playing. Next up, ‘Hope’ kicks off with resonant, delayed toms, adding a haunting howl and synths before dropping into a wild, clanging, carnivalesque frenzy. It’s understated, but advanced, with an interesting arrangement that really opens up in the second half. Finally, 'The Metal Bender’ slows the tempo but ups the vibe into an elated, slow-burning space-disco anthem. Fantastic stuff!

Melbourne’s Kris Baha, fresh from launching his Power Station imprint, offers a stripped down remix of ‘Waiting for a Surprise,’ with a heavy, industrial-influenced groove that wanders into the deep, dark end of party strasse.

Cologne’s Tim Engelhardt delivers his debut EP for Watergate.

We got our first taste of Tim Engelhardt’s prodigious talent when ‘Under Armour’ featured on WhoMadeWho’s acclaimed Watergate 26 compilation earlier this year. The track was a masterstroke of tension-filled chords and crisp drums that put him squarely on the radar of the WG faithful. 

His first EP for the label ‘Rhy’, captures the essence of Watergate’s famous Waterfloor at dawn. The title track is drenched in sheaths of warm melodies, as velvety vocal undertones and sweeping strings welcome the morning light. ‘When The Sun Illuminated Her Eyes’, is the more driving accompaniment, as textured synths and delicate keys shine a light on Engelhardt’s accomplished skill as a pianist.

Budakids’ ‘Walkman’ single gets the remix treatment.
Dutch duo Tunnelvisions strip things back with monotone bass allowing the glorious synth elements to take centre stage. A more direct approach ensures that the energy never slips, aside from a deep, almost hypnotic bassline. 
Bufi lays on shaking tambourines, massive swathes of reverb and looping synth elements to increase the tension and drama at first. Then comes a warped, buzzing, electro-style riff, which trades places with a sorrowful, low-key arpeggio. Darker than the original, it provides a stark contrast to its optimistic sound and is made for more intense moments.

PREMIERE: Spieltape — All Of You (Oliver Schories Remix) [Highway Records]

'Innervisions artist INVŌKER joins Frankey and Sandrino's Sum Over Histories imprint with a  gliding and melodic​ ​release entitled ‘Râ’.    Since cutting his teeth across ​Parisian​ nightclubs, producer and DJ INVŌKER has released on the likes  of DistroKid and Reson8 Music, gaining support from Âme, Dixon and Laurent Garnier to name a few.  He now continues his upward trajectory by joining Berlin-based label Sum Over Histories that has  dropped releases from the likes of Nandu, Lazaros, La Guardia De La Luz, and many more.    

'Râ' opens with driving organic percussion, progressive synths and subtle flutes until 'The Land Of Dust'  pulses the groove forward with clean snares, sweeping pads and delicate stereo frills. 'Operture' then  relaxes the senses with droplet samples, spacey atmospheres and interstellar keys before 'Meet Me At  The Escape Pod' actuates the aural senses with robust beat programming, floating risers and retro  Juno-60-esque patterns.'
