Denim jackets on their shoulders, Simon Says and Florent Frossard aka Il Est Vilaine are hitting town with their first album “Les mystères de Lorient”, out on May 21st on Dialect Recordings.

After several EPs on labels such as Lumière Noire, Kill The DJ or Bahnsteig 23, « Les Mystères.. » is infused with a “Yellow Magic Orchestra-Ish” touch but rooted in the french musical landscape. 

A road trip in Brittany as a red thread, the two hooligans of Il Est Vilaine revisit kawaii pop, crazy rock like DEVO and Detroit techno with a surprising coherence. An album long matured and awaited by the band’s fans. 

Il Est Vilaine aren’t from Brittany, but they sure are tricksters. The Francophiles among you might have caught on to the corny pun in their name (beating a certain presidential candidate to the punch all while turning the name of the pastoral Ile-et-Vilaine region into, literally, “he’s a nasty woman”) but the real takeaway is that these born-and-bred Parisians don’t take themselves too seriously – especially in an era in which there is much too much of that happening.

It was in 2014 (and on Dialect Recordings) that Florent and Simon tossed their debut 12” into the ring, the rightfully named Scandale – a tight little bombshell released that roused the electronic music scene out of its complacent little catnap. So there we had it, two outcasts refusing to eat at the same table as the tech-house scene queens, serving up three whiplash-on-the-dancefloor cuts drenched in sweaty hedonistic disco and wrapped in a battered motorcycle jacket (with a gooey post-punk-pop core for good measure.) A clear mission statement right out of the gates, watermarked with mystical incantations and throbbing with rock ’n’ roll’s primitive drive. Everything and the kitchen sink, and a bag of chips – an invitation to just let loose that’s even better than the sum of its parts.

Long awaited by its core fanbase, this album was produced in Paris at the Coloritmo studio although the initial set up was done remotely as Florent went into exile in Naples during this period.

Il Est Vilaine surrounded themselves with fellow artists such as Apollo Thomas for the Artwork, Chloé C.A.R (on Yvré L'Évêque - they had already made a joined remix for RED AXES), Yula Kasp (on Phare Ouest) , Macdara Smith (on Bar a Gwin), Marcus (on Marilyn Drum telling the delusions of a guru inviting his disciples to debauchery), Sofia Fanego (on Calaveras, who ends this road trip with the death of the protagonist), and also Narumi Hérisson from Tristesse Contempraone (singing in anglo-japanese on Les Mystères of Lorient). 

From the burlesque and abundant vibe of this duo a unity that strikes the listener emerges, like a journey to perfectly mastered poetry, even allowing themselves a tribute/cover of late french night wizard Christophe.

Not so « Vilain »  after all.

Amselmoor is Sebastian Selm, a name that’s build from two German words “Amsel” which means: Blackbird and “Moor” which refers to an uncultivated land. A dark sound blended with dry natural/organic elements. Amselmoor is a Berlin-based producer who draws inspirations from a range of styles such as old school Techno, New German Wave and 90’s House. He crafts his sound using analog synthesizers, field recording from his travels, layering multiple textures suffusing his sound with 
unique frequencies. This vast musical and cultural foundation it comes from Amselmoor’s interest in nature, anthropology and history.

We are delighted to announce our ninth release on Jane Musica (@janemusicagency), ‘Bombay Adelaide’ which is out this month, on June 25th. An enticing EP crafted by Mjane (@mjanebkk), co-founder of Jane Musica, For this second EP as a solo artist. Mjane is putting herself in the spotlight on her label with on unique track of atypical colour.

‘Bombay Adelaide’, feels like some kind of vivacious ritual with a strong breakbeat and rousing groove that will put you in a trance within seconds of hearing it. The sound is simply captivating, the beat and the percussions take you on a path of conquest, accompanied by a loop of voices that plays until the break and projects the most blissful shamanic ambiance.

The EP will feature a list of remixes done by a few notable underground music heavyweights. Up first is DaWad (@dawad) whose remix further enriches the already dominant and enthralling original track, also remixed by Maurice Kaar who takes the reins of the remix for this first curation on Jane Musica, and injects his wonderful musical universe into it.  The EP ends on an exhilarating note with Fausto He indulges us in a version that recalls the sounds of the 90’s, particularly the resonances of acid electronic music. .

The entirety of this ninth release is nothing short of sensational. Each track conceals an exceptional sound and style created by an outstanding and esteemed group of artists which we are privileged to have join us on this new journey with our label.

We are proud to present the fifth instalment of the Pal’s compilation, with talent from across the globe, coming together to create a collection to soundtrack these strange days.

First up, Aural Trace sets the scene with the slow burning celestial soundscapes of ‘Melange’, where choral overtones curl up snuggly along the drum machine, fusing organic and mechanics.

The influence of the Cologne School seeps through every pour of M Love’s ‘Oboda’ with warm analogue melodies oozing throughout. 
Churning distorted guitars twist between the throbbing tribal drums of Mufti’s 'Fascinatio'.

Marzian’s 'Conversaciones Delirantes' pulls us through a psychedelic shapeshifting bass heavy prism of sound. Sharp stabs cut through the bass on Flvn’s ‘Yule’, no mistake, this could soundtrack a slasher movie in-spite of its festive title.

Leo af Ekenstam’s ‘Stress’ carries a tense, yet driving groove punctuated by nervous guitars and shady atmospherics. 

A bubbling bit-crushed low end permeates Montessori’s 'Speed Dating’s dark EBM tinged muscular workout.

Stockholm Syndrome teams up with Lusca to craft a pumping retro synth infused stomper which twists and jitters from the opening bars to the last refrain.

Cabizbajo and Colossio also combine their production talent to create the cavernous feedback driven echofest of ‘Ley’ with twisted arpeggios and animal like sounds dancing in and around the drums.

Manner of Speaking play out with ‘the Unknown’, a brooding instrumental downtempo track which strikes a literal and figurative chord with the collective consciousness this past year.

HAFT, the Iranian duo of Sam Nasehi and Amir Subb, are known for fusing hypnotic synths, deep- rooted pads, and intricate percussion into a sound that bridges traditional textures with modern progressive house. Their debut three-track EP on Balance Music delivers a journey filled with psychedelic undercurrents and shimmering atmospheres that is crafted equally for the dance floor and for deep listening.

The brooding ‘Driftor’ is designed to nudge any DJ set in the right direction. An off-beat bass drives the engine, allowing you to comfortably sit in the pocket of its inviting narrative. Steely drums and percussion form a cohesive frame, while a bag of tasteful effects, samples, and stabs fill the remaining spaces. Once the breakdown hits, in all its subtlety, you know you’re in the hands of professionals. This is essential prog, designed for any occasion.

There is an undercurrent of psychedelia running through ‘Myntal’, hypnotic and consuming. Low- end frequencies double as notes, merging with the bass to create a dizzying effect. Its main-room identity, however, is confirmed by drums that strut forward with propulsive energy. It all points towards a seductive breakdown, its layering teasing a drop that confirms it: this is designed for floors ready to ignite.

Filled with depth, ‘Prism’ shimmers and shakes as synths and stabs perpetually morph. The result is a continuous stream of sonic moments to lose yourself in. Thankfully, the dense bassline and drums bring you back from the edge of hypnosis, filling the space with an elastic energy as buoyant as a trampoline. Then comes the breakdown: bells dissolve into minor-key haze, half beautiful, half surreal: an inviting dream-logic that is hard to deny.
