New England Conservatory pianist Hongge Du performs Scriabin: Sonata for Piano no 2 in G sharp minor, Op. 19 "Sonata fantasy”. Recorded live in Jordan Hall, January 29, 2015.

2015 marked the 100th anniversary of the death of composer Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915). Scriabin's music is heard today primarily at the keyboard - his ten piano sonatas and hundreds of preludes, etudes, and "poems," many of them bearing titles, are numerically the bulk of his output.

Because of the size of this body of work, it closely tracks the evolution of a musical language. Scriabin's earliest works display Chopin's influence in their romantic melodies. Late works anticipate the twelve-tone revolution soon to come - but with a basis in mysticism rather than mathematics.

In the concert this recording came from, NEC piano students performed all ten of the sonatas. The listener was taken on a speedy trip through the evolving sound of piano music in the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as the personal journey of a romantic visionary.

"Alchemy" is my first album I have recorded and published under my new label Vanishing Records. The title of the album refers to the ancient practice of chemistry and seemingly magical process of transformation, the alchemy of one thing turning into another, and here in more poetic form - and represented by a carefully curated set of pieces - the alchemy of us and what we do with that powerful idea.

Sergey Yenanov, also known as Mélodrama, is a contemporary composer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and graduated choir conductor from Kyiv, Ukraine.

At the age of five, he began learning the drums and piano, followed by the trumpet and accordion. Sergey started writing music when he was fourteen years old. After graduating from the National University of Arts, he went on to have a career as a choir leader, classical singer, and songwriter. Now he is focused on creating music for films and commercials. 

In 2018, the record-breaking South Korean boy band BTS used his composition in their live performance of "BTS: The 4th Muster." His music has also been licensed by Disney, the United Nations, Armani, and Hublot, and can be heard in television series, documentaries, and ads on well-known TV networks.
