As Heidegger points out, there is both the light of the fire in the cave and the light of the Sun above, thus these two sources of illumination must have two different meanings attached to them. Consequently, though what emanates from these two sources is referred to as light in both cases, "light" here must itself be capable of having two different meanings. Hence just as truth can be understood as either adequatio and correspondence or as aletheia and unhiddenness, so too can light bear within itself a conceptual distinction. -Nolan Gertz

To attempt a very tentative explanation; in Time and the Other (1987) Levinas pursues a line of analysis that runs from death, through sexuality and the “feminine” to“fecundity” and, what might be called the alteration of the father in the son: “paternity”.There is a logic to this which Levinas significantly claims is not phenomenological but “dialectical”, not a word often found in his vocabulary. Be that as it may, Levinas’ intention here is to separate his thought from the Husserlian analysis of intersubjectivity, conducted, as the latter’s is, in terms of the pairing, mirroring and empathy/sympathy of ego and alter-ego. Levinas offers instead a model of intersubjective reciprocity that is essentially dislocated by the temporal alterity of the other, who, in his or her isolation and mystery, interrupts the“contemporaneousness” of community and communion and establishes instead a radical pluralism that is collective but not communal. -Gary Peters

Since psyche and matter are contained in one and the same world, and moreover are in continuous contact with one another and ultimately rest on irreprehensible, transcendental factors, it is not only possible but fairly probable, even, that psyche and matter are two different aspects of one and the same thing. The synchronicity phenomena point, it seems to me, in this direction, for they show that the non-psychic can behave like the psychic, and vice versa, without there being any causal connection between them. ~ Carl Jung
