Clare County Council is calling on the Government to drop the age limit for free breast cancer screening by ten years. At present, the HSE only offers free breast checks to women aged 50 to 69. Roughly 3,100 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in Ireland every year, with 23% of diagnoses occurring in women under 30. Mayor of Ennis Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard believes the this should be reflected in healthcare policy.

There's a call for the local authority to wake up to "reality" and replace the car parking spaces that have been "lost" in Ennis. Clarecastle Fianna Fáil Councillor Tom O'Callaghan is claiming the number of available space s in the county town has reduced by as much as 239 since 2023. In response, Ennis Municipal District has stated spaces haven't been "lost" but rather "repurposed" for improvement works and projects like road widening and the installation of traffic calming measures. Councillor O'Callaghan believes businesses are suffering as a result.

Clare's opposition TD has dismissed a recent meeting of MidWest politicians over the HIQA review as an optics exercise. Only government Oireachtas members from Clare and Limerick along with Mayor of Clare Paul Murphy attended the event, where they decided to lend support to a three-tiered HSE plan aiming to solve overcrowding in the region. Despite being invited, TDs from Sinn Féin, Labour and Independent Ireland declined to attend. Shannon Sinn Féin Deputy Donna McGettigan believes it was a talking shop that won't deliver real results.

The recent meeting of Clare County Council saw members share stories of male friends who were diagnosed with breast cancer. 

This came as a motion calling for an extension of the screening age limits for the BreastCheck service and for the roll out of a national awareness campaign was passed at the meeting. 

O’Callaghan’s Mills Fine Gael councillor, Conor Ryan and Corofin Fianna Fáil councillor Joe Killeen joined Alan Morrissey on Wednesday's Morning Focus.

Clare and Limerick have been chosen to host the EuroPride Festival in 2028. 
 
EuroPride is a pan-European international event dedicated to LGBT pride, hosted by a different European city each year.
