Passionné de musique et incorrigible collectionneur, Cheb Gero défriche et creuse les mondes musicaux. En 2015, animé par un désir de découvrir le monde en musique, il lance le label Akuphone. Dans une approche qui relève de l’archéologie musicale, il met en lumière le travail d’artistes, musicien·nes, chanteur·euses qui, dans les pays dits occidentaux, sont méconnu·es ou tombé·es dans l’oubli. Loin d’une vision romantique ou fétichiste des musiques extra-occidentales, le label veut articuler ces productions culturelles à leur contexte historique et politique, et les restituer dans leurs conditions sociales et culturelles d’apparition. Depuis 2022, il dirige aussi le nouveau label Elmir Records qui fait la part belle au riche patrimoine musical des régions MENA.

A little premiere it seems. Found this one when throwing my dices on an instrumental. Lots of things come to mind when listening to this. I can imagine contextualizing this in various kind of sets. Nice guitars and synths - bit of a Patti Smith vibe about it - but then in a balearic fashion, if that makes any sense. Looks like the band self-released this on their own label - therefore not an easy release to find. One person on discogs has it in their collection - guess it's me ;) Both a nice vocal and instru version (sample). Don't sleep on this.

My estranged Grandfather, Carlos Rota, sotred over 400 analog tapes in his office in Quito, where he proceeded to accumulate a hoard of 3600 kilograms of paper media. When he passed away, I found the tapes, and began a profound process of rediscovering my self, my family, my city and my country."
