The first selection is by 62nd Cell, the drum and bass alias of Dave Campbell, one of the early 90s originators of UK rave/techno/bleep, and who we featured in an interview and podcast last summer. His first album, The Wood For The Trees, came out on his and partner Marie-Claire’s label YozMaz around the same time as our interview. His second full-length, Tread Softly, was recorded between 2000 and 2015 yet fits well with the downtempo mood of this past year, flitting easily between dub, breakbeat and more abstract works at slower speeds. ‘First Contact’ is a wonderfully twisted yet mesmerising half-time drum and bass track. It’s intelligent dance music that’s not for the faint of heart. 'First Contact' reminds us of his previous 62nd Cell track ‘Bluestuff’ on Keep Expanding (Sleepers Rec).

Suns Of Arqa Revelation XV11

Hanagasumi - hazy curtain of flowers, cherry blossoms appearing from afar like a white mist - this phenomenon can be seen during the sakura blossom in Japan. 

The third release on the label from the musician Shine Grooves. This vinyl is a mini LP of five tracks with different moods. The release is opening with a melodic track with exciting keyboard chords, performed in the best traditions of electro rhythm. On the second track, the mood changes towards a glitch house with a 4x4 beat and a naive melody that penetrates deeply into the mind. The first side of the vinyl is closing with a techno track - a loop recorded on a Roland TR-606 drum machine with an atmospheric melody that flutters in the air throughout the entire composition. 

The second side of the vinyl starts with a 10-minute ambient ode, with cosmic synthesizer sequences and fragments of phrases from telephone conversations - a slow entrance to another reality. The last track on the record has an experimental IDM flavor with melodic guitar tones. 

This LP is made on 12" vinyl, hand stamped, limited to 300 copies. High quality analogue mastering by Sergey Luginin at Luginin Studio.

Die Orakel long time collaborator @edward gracefully reappears with a three track emission called Time Stretch. Edward’s appliance of the titular technique is not restricted to various sonic elements at all, as it extends to the tracks’ mental notes and their trajectories beyond the digital realm. 

Time Stretch fills the entire side A with vibrant sonic elements, a warm bassline along an eerie pad, all on top of a straight and punchy bass drum. La Grotta’s signature melody, plus chirps and cowbells, inject a slight touch of exotica to the musical meta-data, while time stretch artefacts refer back to a befittingly themed EP. Finally, the undercurrents of Black Sea evolve along a modulated melodic pad, a pulsating bass and beat structure, and a light 90s IDM morse figure on top of frequency sweeps.

DECADA 2 musical and visual playfulness trailblazed the electronic scene in Mexico in the mid 80s.
The project channels Mateo Lafontaine’s luminous mind and otherworldly persona into an audible experience.
The mexican producer is a sonic alchemist, exploring and combining a multitude of electronic genres. The result - Mateo’s interpretation of the club music Zeitgeist. 
2020 marked 35 years of Decada 2 and the unfortunate, sudden passing of the artist. This release is a testimony of the legacy of this pioneer of electronic music in Latin America. Still very touched by Mateo’s loss and energised by his involving vibe, we are looking forward for the release of this record. A big thank you to Mario Lafontaine for the genuine trust and support, and to all the people involved in this project.
