The Weight

A traditional American folk song first recorded by Dick Burnett, a partially blind fiddler from Kentucky, in the early 20th century. Interest in the song was renewed after the release of the 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou? which featured the song in a later arrangement with a very similar vocal arrangement to The Stanley Brothers 1959 recording.

Fuelled by the inspired Sun recordings of Johnny Cash and early Presley, the blues of T-Bone Walker and Big Bill Broonzy, through to the contemporary country of Lyle Lovett and Union Station, rolling into the music of Dylan, The Band and J.J. Cale along the way.
