The Blizzard That Birthed Her is the continuing echo of this year’s Home Normal success, Book Of The Folded Forest. Birthed as two original Orla Wren tracks ‘Five Acre Ladder’ and ‘Mountains And Wishbones’ which were recorded in the same session, Tui then worked the cello, bass and vocals of Aaron Martin into two alternative versions of each track, making up the 4 tracks on the 10” vinyl for Facture.

He then offered the same to Isnaj Dui who contributed some flute for him to then create the two versions with her as guest. To complete the companion 8 track letter pressed CD version the two "reprise" versions were created by Tui utilizing parts from the other tracks.

Mastered precisely by James Plotkin, the project is released as a limited edition run of 300 copies designed by Daniel Crossley; 4 track 10” vinyl on reverse board heavy card with printed inner sleeves with designs by Montreal designer Urban9, download code, 8 track 4-panel letter pressed CDs with wrap-around letter pressed bands, 4 prints resting inside typed/numbered glassine photo bags, 2 x double sided large prints, pressed flowers, all resting inside large tagged/scented letter pressed envelopes with beautiful artwork again by Urban9.

To accompany the album an exclusive promo film was made for the track Five Acre Ladder (re-prise) by Lumacell. And a very special exclusive bonus track The Cup Of Remembered Things is also included as a free download.

A returned honour of growth and loss, this album complements her predecessor as an expressive companion piece requiring little explanation.

Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie, the creative force behind A Winged Victory For The Sullen and Stars Of The Lid, is to officially release his score for the motion picture ‘Salero’ on November 11th.
Having channelled some of the most iconic drift music of our time through A Winged Victory For The Sullen and Stars of the Lid, 2016 has already seen Erased Tapes luminary Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie provide original scores for a number of feature films including Jalil Lespert’s ‘Iris’ and ‘The Yellow Birds’ by Alexandre Moors.
It’s on ‘Salero’ however, that we see Wiltzie weave some of his finest work and deliver an expertly distilled accompaniment to director Mike Plunkett’s sprawling, uncompromising visuals. Set in Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat, the narrative follows the region’s ‘Saleros’ – those who have for generations gathered salt and earned enough to somehow carve out an existence in such a barren landscape. It’s with the discovery of huge Lithium reserves – a mineral used frequently throughout the tech industry – under the scorched earth that acts as a catalyst for exploitation of the environment and its people; holding a microscope to the drastic effect industrialisation has on local culture and tradition.
Recording took place in Adam’s Belgium-based studio for the guitars, percussion and small string ensemble tracking. Hungary was chosen for the final large string orchestra recordings at Magyar Radio Studio #22 with the Budapest Art Orchestra.

Confidence is the second album from producer and multi-instrumentalist David Georgos (DE) aka Memum. Conceptually a continuation from his first critically acclaimed album Became a Leaf, it also draws threads from his earlier record Awakine which was released under the moniker Locoto. Confidence embodies the spirit of ambient composition by taking crystal clear and precise tones and melodies, and setting them into a drift of natural rhythms and textures. What unfurls is a musical examination of the delicacy and grace of plant life, a constant source of inspiration for Georgos who continually gravitates to the quiet life and natural landscapes.

‘I feel a strong connection between the beauty and complexity of plants and the variety of human emotion, intermingling in their cycles, fragility and resilience.’

The seed for this earthy collection of songs was sown in an old wooden house in Finland, surrounded by a wild garden, apple trees and groves of towering dark green spruce. The silent fields and subdued landscapes created the bed from which the album grew.
‘The landscape I was working in brought to mind the dreamy tape-sound of Stephen Wilkinson (@bibio) which I had been deeply affected by but it also seemed to reflect the contemporary Scandinavian music and traditional folk music of Japan that were important inspirations during the making of the album.'

Georgos worked with four singers on Confidence, Erin Lang, Anne Garner, Faira and Anna Marjamäki. Georgos and Lang are frequent collaborators and play together in the art-pop band Foundling. Georgos knew that Lang’s breathy and enchanting voice would be the perfect compliment to the album’s folky dream-pop opener Aalto, which takes it’s name from the Finnish word for wave.

Anne Garner’s voice embodies a rare kind of sincerity on Timedrift, managing to convey strength and vulnerability in the same breath. For Komoriuta, Faira’s vocal virtuosity and solid melodic sensibility create a detachment that contrasts the plucky fuzzy piano tape loops and the song becomes almost a call and answer between the singer and song-bed. Though Illuminate began as an experiment winding together Anna Marjamäki’s vocal fragments with samples of Georgos’ own voice, what grew out was a mystic choral, almost Gregorian dreamscape.
Within the intricately woven nest of the voices, the guitar and piano, the field recordings creating the subtle impressions of rushing water, horse drawn carriages and cats purring, Confidence becomes an intimate collection of the first beams of sunlight after a dark winter nestled and still under a wool blanket. It is a reverence for spring, revealing the warmth of life in waiting and winding roots deep into a memory of solid earth.

It’d be a laborious task to run through all of Fritch’s many accolades, since 2009 he has released over 20 albums and composed music for over 30 feature films and more than a hundred short films. Lost Tribe Sound has been by his side since the beginning, releasing a few of his finest stand alone scores, including the critically acclaimed, ‘The Waiting Room’, ‘Eagle Hunters in a New World’, and ‘The Old Believers.’ Of course, LTS could boast for days about what a musical genius we believe he is. Yet, having written so many of these press rants for Fritch in our time, we’ll try to curb ourselves at the risk of preaching to the choir or sounding disingenuous.

That isn’t to say, Fritch isn’t well deserving of mountains of praise. We are honestly amazed that his film music hasn’t attracted the attention of more major motion picture studios. To date, Fritch has penned imaginative and impressive scores for narrative and documentary productions that run the gamut of most every imaginable genre and aesthetic. From raw and emotional films that uncover startling humanitarian and ecological crises, such as 2016’s Oscar-nominated short film ‘4.1 Miles,’ and National Geographic’s sweeping ’Into The Canyon,’ to eccentric and nuanced biopics and documentaries on figures such as Ursula K LeGuinn, Bill Nye and Johnny Cash. Fritch has found unique and artful voices for these wide ranging stories.

Most of those familiar with Fritch, know only of his albums as a singer songwriter or genre-elusive multi-instrumentalist, which truly represent a small fraction of the depth and range of his work. ‘Deceptive Cadence…’ gathers the most remarkable and memorable pieces from Fritch’s vast catalog of film compositions. Rather than filling up two volumes with half assembled film cues and fragmented themes, Fritch has gone to great lengths with ‘Deceptive Cadence…’ to make sure both volumes tell a story, build theme, and create a satisfying full album experience as good as any movie they may have come from. While this music once graced a particular film, show, or commercial, it has all been reimagined, reworked and made whole in post-production to complete the epic narrative of ‘Deceptive Cadence…’
