I will always remember those moments at the Nomads festival when Red Greg would close down the Lumberjacks in Hell stage and time stood oddly still, the sunset behind the trees and a warm breeze driving through the crowd. After several hours of dancing, everybody on the dancefloor was familar with each other, the first five rows or so anyway. I remember Rahaan, Mendel, Dieuwer, Robbert, Sam and Bram of course, Kim, Chiara... and Ben! 
The thought ringing through my head, this is as good as it gets. No matter where else you chose to travel to, this is the perfect moment and nothing could make it better. 
All of these Nomads days and nights merge into each other, not least because we had Darren celebrate with us somewhere around 2-4 times. One year it was Sylvester's - Over & Over at ten to eleven, the second last song of the day, that captured on video, encapsuled every emotion that needed to be captured.
I am not able to recall all of the music from those sessions. I remember his legendary blends that have lead you into the next epic groover long before you even realized it's a new tune. Never missing a beat and forever leaving you with a smile and a "damn" on your lips. 
Where did that coming from and how much higher can we go?

Red Greg, take us back to those beautiful moments of freedom and joy.

So that was the final night at the Paradise Farage. Sadly the club has had to be closed down, demolished and the site turned into a giant lorry park as a result of Brexit. For our last show, we travelled to Ray Mang's studio and streamed live from deepest East London with Mr Mang himself, a Leftside Wobble guest mix and me. Another Night On Earth:
"Mr Mendel, for those that dont already know, is a man to keep an eye on. Not that he's new on the scene; Mendel hosts top class nights I Love Vinyl and The Daisy Age in his hometown Amsterdam and he's been digging hard since he made the cross over to more varied sounds from his Hip Hop early days. One need only to listen to any one of the mixes he has up on his soundcloud page to discover the depth of his skills at both digging and spinning. One might argue that Mendel is amongst the next generation of a lineage that runs through Rahaan, Kon & Amir, Rich Medina, Sadar Bahar and even our friend Marcel Vogel. With some edits of his own beginning to surface, it's pretty clear the guy has a little bit of what we love written all over his future.

Mendel - Sunshine Boogie (2013)

Though he loves the peaks of a dance floor experience, Mendel’s favourite moments both in and outside of the booth are the gentle, the sensual, the sweet ones. He strives for the dance floor to be a place of safe expression, particularly for those whom society usually pushes to the sidelines. Less fist-pumping, more care, more footwork, more smooching. That’s not to say that his sets are low in energy. Mendel understands and builds energy into his sets like no other, creating hugely danceable journeys that often result in unforgettable moments of euphoria. From boat parties in Brazil, to his all-nighters at Djoon and Giant Steps, to his own community-based Ciranda events. When it all comes together Mendel’s sensitivity makes for ecstatic dance floor magic.

Born and raised in Amsterdam, Mendel bought his first record player from a Waterlooplein market stall at the tender age of 10. He played his first set at 15 in hip-hop temple Cafe De Duivel. In these formative years, Mendel immersed himself in studying the origins of hip-hop, broadening his musical horizon. He got a job at Waxwell Records, a second-hand vinyl institution, and fell further in love with disco, boogie and house - the Black American sounds that have shaped him - as well as musical styles from even further afield. His sets nowadays reflect this broad spectrum of sounds; music that can be plucked from anywhere in the last fifty years, meticulously mixed for maximum emotion.
