All aboard the ‘Ark’: Two by two, four by four, whatever… Whichever way you want to board, the doors of this great vessel are open and Monaberry bossmen Super Flu are the proud captains.

Their first full voyage of the year, ‘Ark’ is a stately piece of techno noir theatre designed to wrestle the choppiest of dancefloor seas. A multi-layered narrative laced with crispy arpeggios and strange otherworldly talkbox textures, it’s an oceanic titan that ploughs through the heaviest of elements with grace and majesty.

‘Doppt’ takes us to the next waymark on the map. Gently rhythmic from the moment its first shakers kiss your ears, we’re soon satiated with tightly plucked percussive elements, subtle humanised textures and a sense of momentum that’s tightly coiled with suspense and drama in a way that only Super Flu know how.

Finally our feet touch terra firma with the mysterious afro house maverick Hyenah as he provides an earthy remix stampede. Flexing between African rhythms, powerful 4/4s and a tantalising breakdown salvo, it’s yet another sterling revision from the masked beast… And another exceptional Monaberry trip from the one and only Super Flu. Boy voyage!

‘Anomaly’ is this year’s full-length release by Steyoyoke, presenting familiar roster artists as well as industry newcomers. A close collaboration between some of the most talented producers on the label. Anomaly will be split in two parts with two separate releases. Part one features the label’s lighter, ethereal signature sound and Part two will showcase the darker, more traditional techno. 

Kicking off Anomaly (Part 1) are Soul Button & Modeplex with their track, ‘Ardor’. It has a strong beginning that builds steadily to a wide, misty soundscape, feeling both peaceful and motivating. 

It then pulls back to a more minimal, rhythm-driven ending that sets the tone for the next track, ‘Dome’ by Ceas. Here Ceas uses a melody to take the listener into a suspended space, caught between tension and release. The track develops with subtle changes in bass and percussion, whilst tying each section together with a consistent theme.

The third track, ‘Catharsis’ by Clawz SG & Soul Button, introduces layers of smoother tones, echoing to give a sense of mystery and wonder. There is a softness to this track combines with hints of darkness to make a compelling number. 

Clawz SG continues with ‘Esperanza’, making a statement with a beginning focused on unusual, earthy percussion. Hypnotic synths build steadily before the track erupts into a powerful, stadium-worthy finale. 

The final appearance of Clawz SG on the album is ‘Lost Signal’, co-written by Ceas. Layers of syncopation set this track apart as a stand-out with its distinct energy and rhythm, while a delicate transitional section places this in the space between ethereal and traditional techno.

Immerse yourselves and let it take you on a journey of pure aural pleasure. Be on the lookout as Part 2 is just right around the corner to complete this stunning album.

Reinhard Voigt returns to his own label KOMPAKT with another episode of satiric techno to enlighten today’s current trend of deadpan dance music.

Since the 1990’s, Reinhard has brought an unparalleled spirit into the techno scene through outrageously energetic live shows and the many releases under alias such as SRI, Pentax plus of course his ongoing collaboration Voigt & Voigt together with esteemed brother, Wolfgang Voigt.

Reinhard embraces all that wildlife has to offer with “Was wir spüren”. Starting things off with the future afterparty anthem, “Das singende, klingende Ding” the bass drum is there to guide the lost and found through a voracious bee storm as the rooster crows gloriously towards duck quacking oblivion.

“Tausendmal zu viel” fits perfectly as the soundtrack for to the artwork created by Mareena von Cube – a tormented hymn loops its way to the warriors of the never world.

“Der Mann, der nie nach Deutz kam” is classic Reinhard Voigt techno at peak-time point. A throttling bass drum is voraciously fuelled by the jungle twilight.
