"Deeper Vibrations is proud to announce their first release in aid of charity, a sixteen track compilation entitled 'Origin'.

All tracks on the compilation were chosen from the 'VibeWar' with help from our followers. The VibeWar was a competition that took place between artists within the bass-music scene, who battled it out to create the most beautiful piece of music possible. With so many people enjoying the music created through the VibeWar, Deeper Vibrations saw potential to further the positive effects by creating a compilation, which in turn could help raise money for victims of real wars throughout the world.

The artists involved generously donated their music to the cause, coming together to produce an outstanding compilation, with a unique mix of inspiring music, with a strong emphasis on bass. The release features a range of artists from established producers, to new talent.

Deeper Vibrations wanted to help children who through no choice of their own have grown up in a world surrounded by war and conflict. All proceeds are going to WarChild’s programme in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Central African Republic, DR Congo and Uganda."

Menik & Arkist - Lift (Menik Slow Jam Edit)

The idea behind this track was thought up by the main man Native! 

His inspiration came when he watched the short film Sun Day. He decided to write the lyrics based on an imaginary letter from the little boy to his sister and we built the track around this. If you haven't seen the short then follow the link bellow, mute it (no disrespect to the original composer!) and press play on this. It's emotional believe me! 

The vocals were sung by native and the track was constructed by my self. As the song was so emotional and to tie it together with the a side of this release we got Yipping in to play some live Erhu (Chinese violin) for us and it sounds incredible.

Menik & Native - Mirage (Out Now 'Yobow EP' via Substruct Digital & LTD 10" Vinyl)

Title track from the 'Yobow EP' forthcoming @substructaudio 30.09.15

This track was written around the time my girlfriend left to go back to america (Visa's suck), It was sad so i decided to get out the saddest instrument i could find, the Erhu, after two months practice  i could just about string 4 notes together and the basis of the song was born. 

My girlfriend calls me Yobo which is like a casual term for boyfriend in Korean (Don't ask) so i decided to call the track that, i added the 'w' to make it bow as a nod to the two stringed instrument i wrote it on.

We went pretty deep on this one, a lot of the percussion was recorded live and the main groove was created by tapping an acoustic guitar Andy McKee Style. 

Lylli hand drew the artwork (Unbelievable!).
The artwork is inspired by the words of my good buddy Jimmy and his beautifully written track description: 

"Rush - The precise order of things in nature. Rush’s variety of bleeps, knocks, taps and twitches breath life into a body rhythm, a pace, at which we follow undertone vocals unto a steady kick drum and the notes from a sombre bass. The track’s inner workings are exposed like cogs and gears underneath a watch face. Rush is a descant to verisimilitude, as well as a soundtrack of ecstasy. Homage to the natural world, from the electronic one. It begs to be mistaken for birdsong and tribal drum. Yet, it was borne between the 1’s and O’s, dashes and commands. Keystrokes of a machine masquerading as fine brushstroke of impressionist landscape. Above all else, Rush is special. Airy and light. Commanding and ordered. Ying and Yang. The metal wiring behind human flesh."

It feels, as strings drive the track through its dense chorus, much like watching a time lapse video. The fluidity of time moving at great pace over slowly dissolving objects. Melting glaciers. Starry nights. Cityscapes. We’re invited to watch, as the big picture shapes up in front of us. We’re invited to see through the world we know, and see it again, through the surrounding motions, to see the ghost of our modern day lives. Paradise."

The Breach (FT Lylli)

A tale of young love and heartbreak, those relationships that at the time seem like the only thing that matter in the world. And when they end oh boy do they hurt! This song is a reflective look back on how insignificant those relationship's actually were.

Wasn't All That

The wonders of long distance relationships! It features recordings of Menik's partner Skyping her mother in Thailand. The mood of this track is quite fun and positive but there is a hint of melancholy too. 

The idea behind this is that for the most part technology does a fantastic job of allowing us to move away and still feel connected with family and friends even from the other side of the world (Even with buffering issues), however technology can't replace the feeling's of physical touch and simply being in the same room enjoying someone's company.

Long Distance

A child hood trip down memory lane infused with the future sounds of electronica, the record consists of carefully selected foley, retro strings, wobbly organs and audio from Menik's baby home videos.

Incidentally this track seems to make Menik's dog howl every-time he hears it!?

Fuzzy Duck

Inspired by Menik's huge move from the UK to NZ, it features recordings from his first exploration of the island, a trip to surf mecca Raglan. Menik stopped on the side of the road to record a large herd of cows and while he was recording a sound track was playing in his head, this was that sound track.

"This track is inspired by Menik's short time spent growing up in San Francisco.

The intro audio is actually camcorder audio from 27 years ago, in the footage Menik is about to get on a tram by pier 39 in San Fran, the voices you can hear are his Grandma Pat (RIP), dad and brother, there's also more audio clips at the end of Menik's brother and Mother talking about new toys, it was a happy time!

The acoustic guitar represents Menik's dad as he used to play to Menik and his brother when they were kids. The electric guitar represents Menik as He played all the way through his teens and the computer analogue type sounds represent us all as we were all computer nerds.

All the guitar, keys and percussion was played live by Menik him self. The dialogue of the girls talking about brothers is actually from a @Soulection film of their time at Coachella festival.. (www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoKnMKXdyc4 14:00) When Menik heard her say brothers in an American accent it triggered his inspiration for the track which is why he had to sample it.”

The idea behind "A stars Last Dance" stems from Menik's love of Astrology and Astro Photography. After arriving in New Zealand and discovering some of the most non-light polluted areas in the world, Menik's idea to tell his own story of a dying star was born.

A Rainy Day In Murrays Bay is an extremely personal record to Menik. The day this song was written Menik realised his long term relationship was over and he was all alone on the other side of the world. He picked up a guitar and hit record and this emotional sonic encounter was the outcome. It was recorded at his home studio in Murrays Bay accompanied by his cat Santa who's meow can be heard at the start of the record along with a frequent NZ winter monsoon.
