シカゴ出身、サンフランシスコを拠点に活躍中のアーティスト。90年代初頭からDJとして世界中をまわり、年間100本以上ものギグでプレイ。跳ねる様な音色のトラックを超人的かつ卓越したスキルとセンスでミックスするDJスタイルにより、北米はもとより世界中からファンを獲得、西海岸のシーンを代表するトップ・アーティストとして君臨し続けている。日本では2006年に野外フェスティヴァルMetamorphoseにヘッドライナーとして登場。2つのステージにて異なるコンセプトでDJをおこない、多くの観衆を魅了した。翌年の2007年には、今は無き伝説のクラブSpace Lab Yellowの単独公演と共に、Liquidroomでのom:tokyoでもプレイ。その内容を収録したミックスCD『Live in Tokyo』をリリースし、大きな話題を呼んだ。2008年には世界的に最も評価を受けているミックスCD『Fabric』の40番を担当した。イギリスが誇る名門クラブでの架空の一夜をコンパイルした内容を抜群の選曲と類まれなグルーヴで表現し、更に多くの支持を集めることになった。近年は同郷でもあるDerrick Carter、DJ Sneakと活動を共にしており、ベルギーで開催されている世界最大級のダンスミュージック・フェスティヴァルTomorrowlandにて、3人によるバック・トゥ・バック・トゥ・バックを2012年から披露している。この特別なパフォーマンスはイビザが最も盛り上がるサマー・シーズンのPachaでもおこなわれている。また1992年からスタートした自身のパーティーMushroom Jazzは、ジャジーなヒップホップからダビーなダウンテンポ・トラックを中心に構成され、同名のミックスCDとして現在まで7作品を発表する人気シリーズとなっている。ある意味、対極ともいえる二面性を表現し続けられるのも、幅広い音楽性を持つMark Farinaならではのスタイルといえるだろう。

-このミックスのコンセプトを教えて下さい。

これはロンドンのクラブBasing Houseでプレイした時のライヴ・ミックスだ。
300人規模の箱だったけど、素晴らしいFunktion-Oneのサウンドシステムが設備されていたよ。
ここでは1人のDJが一晩中プレイするというスタイルでパーティをおこなっているんだ。
このミックスは早い時間にプレイしていたMushroom Jazzのセットだね。
オープンから沢山のお客さんが踊りに来てくれて、楽しかったことを覚えているよ。

I was one of the resident djs at the Mushroom Jazz party back in the 90's. It was a memorable weekly event that was part of the burgeoning Acid Jazz scene in San Francisco. On June 15, 2016,  I had the pleasure of playing at Mushroom Jazz (which was a monthly event at Monarch) and this is my recorded set. After a very long time I really felt like mixing music and decided to record it. I played some old favorites, a few classics and some lesser known tracks. the mix was made on 3 decks. Classic Deepjacking style, no nonsense, straight bangin'! 
unfortunately my recording cable caused some crackling when I picked up my recorder a few times. it is what it is, raw and pure. I hope u enjoy!

In addition to being a DJ and Promoter, Menno Overvliet is an up and coming producer from The Netherlands. His influences include artists from the early techno era like Jeff Mills and the Belleville Three. His first production with Tommy Largo was released on Robsoul with an EP titled 'Raw Steel.' Their track 'Pass It Around' has already been making waves for several months with its delightful sampling from the original B.T. Express song 'Peace Pipe.'
Menno recruited Tommy to become a resident DJ for Amsterdam's Most Wanted radio station in 2012. The formation of this double Dutch duo has proved to be a solid one, with releases coming out on 1200 Traxx and Deepjacking Recordings.
