Little Drummer Boy (feat. The Baylor Project)

sat down in the square barn at this year's gratitude jam at earthdance and recorded some improvisation. i've had a few opportunities to play for CI jams in the last couple months and so loved them. falling in love with improvisation again and wanting to keep exploring, and expand my skillset. i remember recording these and thinking they were not so great, but listening back i'm really pleasantly surprised with how much i'm enjoying listening. when i'm playing to support the dancers at jams i'm more conscious of including more spaciousness, patience, etc

This particular composition is Arta's letter to her mother that she wrote while away from home, sitting on the rock at the Runyon Canyon. 
It is a part of Arta's new multidisciplinary and bilingual concert performance "Letters to Home" that combines the elements of music,  video projections, and storytelling. Each letter reveals different insights into life as an immigrant, longing for a homeland, broken families, love and friendship, and ultimately, a sense of belonging.
