We're back. This time crawling back into the dark and cavernous (but welcoming) caves of dubstep.

To kick off our first bit of 140 this year, we're drafting in someone new to the Mercurial ranks. Off the back of some killer releases in 2020, we're super gassed to welcome KALEE to the Murky Crew.

The A side, 'Prodromal', is an intensely gritty experience. Industrial, alien and warped; dubstep that really pushes into the experimental realms. To be honest, this tune scared us a little bit, and we love it.

The B side, entitled 'Retrieval', completely turns the release on its head, comprised of twinkling, arpeggiated keys and skipping percussion, while still maintaining an aggressive, bass-driven rawness.

We really hope you like being (just a little bit) terrified.

Kicking off with the bass driven rhythm 'Pull up’ leaving foundations shaking as the EP roll’s in to vocal talents of Gear's infectious Disingenuous, coupled with the crooked, quirky flex from Lst-Ky on ‘Creep’. The man with a 1000 eyes EP’ leaves no holes with a sense of fresh, modern production as HØST brings a multitude of influences forward, rounding off the EP with a couple of Lofi flavours ‘Herbedacious' & The man with a thousand eyes.

If "The Year of the Rat" compilation last year demonstrated what the label was about, our latest compilation in the lunar calendar series "The Year of the Ox" might give you the hint that we aren’t backing down. We have curated a 12 track serve from some of our fave artists both local and global. 

We are excited to have onboard Austrian OGs, ROYGREEN & PROTONE, who take a detour from their jazzier side into no-nonsense halftime and LAKEWAY, whilst still fresh off the Med School boat, delivers a marvellous dark liquid club banger. 

We also have Asian-based artists representing in full force. Beijing’s rising big cheese RADIAX, Unchained’s roller studmuffin KRAY, Japan’s long-fringed wonderkid FETUS and Sino-Italian trio outfit FRACTALE - all brimming with burly bass weight. 

Unchained Recordings Dutch royalty SUBP YAO offers up yet another ‘make shit bang’ curveball and Russia’s CHAMPION SOUND shows how to recycle classic breakbeat for modern-day warehouse stomping. 

Stateside, Unchained crew member and skinny git, AIRSTRIKE makes his debut by embracing Unchained’s mutant bass ethos and disguises it in dirty, smelly, “roller” clothing with his tune Lion Up. 

Canadians GROVES and OAKK are back with two totally wrong face-tic wonky wobblers and we also welcome fresh outfit 3VS's (Akuratyde, Tellus and Monika) who have thoroughly owned this gorgeous, atmospheric yet menacing, sunrise belter. 

We are incredibly proud of all our artists for their work on this release and we sincerely hope you grab a listen to all the tunes inside.

Seminal bass music label Nomine Sound in collaboration with Kaom Productions is dropping an EP from label head honcho Nomine and legendary drum & bass producer Digital, alongside the talented lyrical prowess of 9er, co-founder of grime collective Macabre Unit. They pull together an extensive range of talent, one which dips into a variety of subgenres and produces a ground-breaking body of work, especially considering the names featured across its package. Including reworks from Boylan, Slimzee, Nurve and Digital himself alongside D K, it highlights the range of producers available to Nomine and their commitment to sound diversity within their field. 

Up first comes the EP’s base ‘Run From It’, with 9er storytelling through his strong vocal presence, moulded against breaks and sonics with a lumbering impact. Next is followed by Boylan and Slimzee on the remix, who focus heavily on flitting drums and thumbing sub bass. Nurve then steps up for a dubstep inspired stomper, and finally, Digital and D K approach with a more garage infused offering, which helps to shape the instrumentals with its rolling shuffles. 

Digital and D K deliver the final track which closes an impressive body of work, one highlighting Nomine Sound’s place within the wider underground scene. They stand as an important part of its foundations and the artists involved with the imprint are a testament to that fact.
