Trying to pigeonhole this man is about as difficult as it would be to actually fit him into a pigeon sized hole. As soon as we heard his track on the amazing Scotland VA from the big dons over at Midnight Bass, it was clear that this dude was not worrying about which subgenre his music fitted into. He makes good music, plain and simple, and this is something we have always tried to champion at Mercurial. His understanding of mood, tone and energy cannot be overstated. These are all incredibly hard things to quantify, but are often what takes an artist to the next level, and OHARE seems to have them on lock. Whether it’s on Resonate, with its aggressive low-end and ethereal highs, or Rough Up, a true homage to the frenetic, choppy jungle of yesteryear, or the completely infectious Do It Like, begging you to find a dancefloor and bust some shapes, OHARE’s style and sound is instantly recognisable, and never fails to impress. We’re expecting huge things from this donny, and we’re so gassed to be bringing you his Mercurial debut!

We’re so excited to bring you four absolutely stellar tracks from fellow Merky Boy himself; Spiff. 

If you’re not yet aware of the artist formerly known as Spiffy B, or if you already are well versed in such lore, this is Spiff as you’ve never seen him before. Showing the true range and versatility of his production, Hieraphant opens with its title track, an uplifting and infectious 140 breaks wonderland that blossoms like a warm summers day and drops into a euphoric dance floor.

It just wouldn’t be Spiff without some absolute violence, however, amply provided by track two; Seraph. Again offering plenty in the way of uplifting power and energy, the first drop gives way to rolling 4 to the floor drums and syncopated pads that feel both relaxing and energetic — we know that doesn’t make sense you’ll just have to take our word for it.

The B side takes a distinctly darker turn as we leave the light of day and enter the world below. Stalactite, the first track fills the mind with images of cavernous spaces masking dark corners, and of far off voices calling in the void. Its brother; Stalagmite is the release of all that tension, as the ground starts to shudder and crack beneath you, drums in the deep awaken you to the peril at hand. The thundering of the breakbeats is like some great monster rising from the earth.

This EP is a journey, we can’t stress that enough. It’s been a long time coming but we are absolutely stoked for Spiff that it’s finally here and it makes finally getting to share it with you all even sweeter. We hope this is the start of a renewed and refreshed Mercurial, and we truly believe it is, but for now we’re just glad to be doing what we set out 4 years ago in a back garden to do.

Unparalleled range as always from the man, as he runs it straight into a lurky Noir type beat with the crispiest grime drums, this one called SRAH3.

Of course, what else could come next, other than a metallic, grind your teeth, neon and acid hyper pop number called Unfocused.
