Holy sheep shit. This one was very challenging and took forever to complete. I began it in the late summer of 2018 after a breakup, playing with it intermittently over six years but focusing on it more solely in 2023-2024. Lots going on in there. The song structure is irregular as hell with many volatile parts to keep things interesting. It's almost like a full EP in itself. I've got a decently powerful PC and the working file for this track became such a CPU hog that the song lags badly in my DAW even at the longest buffer length and the best CPU optimization settings. It can only be heard properly after exporting it, so mastering it was a difficult process and I was getting sick of the endless re-listening. Even after all that, I still think the sound is not poppin' enough in some parts of the track. It's as close as I could get it and I just need to move on.

A clip of last month's jam recorded with my phone. The drums are a live sequence of presets I made on my sampler lined through a guitar amp using its distortion. This method is the most fun way I've recorded electronic drums. I'll likely release a track based on it. The other samples are from a couple of old sound FX CDs that I also roughly recorded with my phone. At the intro, you can hear me push the play button on my boombox and the player begins to spin.
