Meet Velveteen – An 18-year-old DJ with a background in drumming. She started DJing to incorporate more electronic elements into her sound. This year, she’s exploring different genres—hard techno, schranz, trance, jungle, and bouncy—while focusing on developing her unique style rather than sticking to just one.

Many artists have inspired her journey, but the biggest influences include Nia Archives, Malugi, Marlon Hoffstadt, Only Numbers, 6EJOU, William Luck, Lesss, Klang, Nyctonian, and Hades.

For Velveteen, an essential skill for any DJ or producer is the ability to express emotion through their sets. Loving what you play is crucial—it strengthens the connection between the artist and the audience. Being able to translate passion into sound is fulfilling not just for the artist but also for those experiencing the music. Attention to detail and genuine enthusiasm shine through when showcasing one’s work.

She draws inspiration from listening to countless podcasts and DJ sets, watching producer interviews, and experiencing raves firsthand. She also finds new tracks on SoundCloud and Beatport, constantly refining her selections.

A major mentor in her journey has been Rensei, who helped her pick up her first deck and guided her through creating her first set. His DJing style is truly unique—something that can’t be replicated—and she feels incredibly lucky to have met him. From a production standpoint, Scythe.mt has been a major inspiration, while Slizer attention to detail pushes her to create outstanding sets. She also deeply admires the entire local scene, believing that the talent on the island is unmatched and the community they’ve built is one of the most supportive.

From a young age, Velveteen was drawn to music, watching music videos and dreaming of being part of the industry. Not being able to sing or play an instrument made her feel like that dream was out of reach. But she believes that if something is meant for you, it’s always within you—you just have to find it. After years of searching, she’s finally carving out her space in the industry and making her younger self proud.
