Bio:
Merzedes Šturm-Lie (BE/NO/SE) is a multimedia artist living and working in Brussels and Stockholm. In her performances, she uses voice and sound as a temporary passage between worlds, moving between chaos and harmony to immanence and transcendence.
For this new project, she teams up with Raph A (BE), a composer-musician-artist based in Brussels, to create an abstract yet musical mix of technoïd improvisations and the vocal actions for which she is known for through her work as a solo-artist.
As a two-piece unit, this collaboration also aims at a more live-band experience with a freeform approach while displaying left-field and electronic influences.

Installation and performance with laser-engraved mirrors, led-lamps, voice, megaphones, potentiometer, ldr, wires. 2023

Anatomical drawings related to the larynx have been graphically altered and engraved on old mirrors. Disassembled megaphones with manipulated circuit boards are activated, emitting vibrato-esque siren sounds, intertwined with traditional herding calls and improvised voice actions. A non-singular interplay of emotion and reason, nature and technology.

The performance took place at the FLYKTIG / FUGITIVE residency in Valdres, Norway. In the performance an improvised interpretation of the traditional Norwegian herding call “Lokk” was intertwined with the ceremonial pouring of cowmilk onto a rock, whilst detailing the multifaceted connotations of ‘mor’ or ‘mother’ within this rural community.
