For this mix, I tried to find the sweet spot between sultry and haunting; cerebral yet somatic. It came together almost on its own—a gently cascading rabbit hole of tech and dubstep, guided by indulgent pads and dubbed-out chords.

seed003 has been taken on by bristol mainstay, SSSLIP. boundary pushing, known for 'obscure soundscapes', and adverse to colouring in the lines of genre bases ~ was obviously gassed to see what was produced for this one 

what has followed i couldn't be happier with, a raw ~ honest and deeply personal insight into a momentous part of the artist's life. it's a place that i (and i'm sure many others) have either found ourselves, or strive to get to. thank you for this honesty and insight into the corners of your mind <3 

'a realm of chaos entangled in excitement, neutrality entwined in abrupt rhythmic fantasy. 

this mix represents, for me, navigating the dance music industry, dance floors and spaces as a sober participant. moments of uncertainty mixed with absolute clarity, profoundness and hopelessness, finding your groove and losing sense of self: anticipation and acceptance.

it’s a complete juxtaposition of itself, intended to sooth and provoke thought. no matter how slow or intense the track is, just like an emotion, you need to listen in its entirety - feeling it fully. 

take it as you like - a timeline through a day in the mind, a day per track, an emotion per shift in tone, each selection intended to evoke a response in thought pattern. 

emotionally and symbolically it’s the deepest I’ve dived in a mix, aimed at a glimpse into the chaotic and calm realm of anyone’s mind - an everyday struggle and guidance through anticipation and acceptance. 

throughout, I find a new approach to mixing, one that mirrors a new approach I take to my outlook on everything. It’s flutters of emotion, fleeting, extravagant, solemn, chaotic, intense, serene, uplifting, confusing, all at once and all separately.

i hope it brings you some meaning or understanding of the small things, everyday.'

For RA.1000, DJ Sprinkles' first mix in over a decade is a powerful meditation on the genocide in Gaza.

Dance music often relies on simple narratives: release, escape, unity. But those narratives can often feel inadequate, and even at times, hollow. Or, as Terre Thaemlitz might bluntly put it, just "shitty."

For her first mix in around 15 years, Terre Thaemlitz AKA DJ Sprinkles, challenges us to think differently. "I felt this 1000th podcast should reflect the moment in which it was made," she told us in her Q&A.

And what is this moment? Every day since Israel's 2023 assault on Gaza began, an average of 28 children have been killed. That's an entire classroom, every day, for over 600 days (at the time of writing). It's a staggering figure that only captures a fragment of the listless cruelty imposed on the strip.

Faced with such a genocide, what can music really do? How political can it truly be?  For their RA.1000, Thaemlitz gives us an unflinching rebuke to the idea that music should provide escapism. The mix weaves ambient fragments and jazz passages, woven around samples from Israeli media and the voices of outspoken Jewish critics like Gabor Maté and Norman Finkelstein. 

The result is not just a protest, but a document of our time. For Terre Thaemlitz, music is never just music. Her RA.1000 serves as a reminder that in an age of relentless suffering, the most political act is to reject the illusion of escape, and search for something greater.

“A recording from pe:rsona in France, one of the most memorable sets of the summer for me!! 

I felt a connection to this crowd in particular and that’s not something that happens often. A lot of this is down to the people behind this festival, the pe:rsona/Positive Education crew are very intentional with what they do, they champion and support a lot of artists who aren’t necessarily ‘big names’. I think this cultivates a crowd that trusts in their curation, they’ve fostered this really special energy. 

I played on Friday night between two live sets, Christian Coiffure and Renslink. They are two incredible acts to be sandwiched in-between which inspired the set to evolve the way it did.
