Metalheadz and Quartz present Interloper, a body of work years in the making, and an unfiltered document of evolution, displacement and creative persistence. Originally sparked by an invitation from Goldie in 2018 to deliver multiple releases for the label, the album gradually took on its own identity, absorbing each stage of Quartz’s shifting environments and mindset.

There has always been something quietly disquieting about the music of Quartz, also known as Elliot Garvey. Not in a theatrical sense, but more like a fog that rolls in and never quite lifts. Interloper continues that tension: textured, brooding, and deeply precise. The record doesn’t announce itself; it unfolds slowly, rewarding close attention with meticulous detail and atmosphere.

Garvey’s path has always been unconventional. A Welsh producer uninterested in social media or self-promotion, he has carved out a singular presence within the underground. Respected by veterans and quietly championed by tastemakers, his work sits outside trend or scene. “I’ve always chased that looming tension,” he says. “Something that hits in a way you don’t quite expect.”

Unlike many concept-driven projects, Interloper emerged organically, over years of work alongside his other releases. “I realised I’d been holding onto this idea that albums needed a narrative,” Garvey explains. “Once I let that go, it became a diary, a reflection of refining my craft and finding the music I truly love.”

Sonically, the record resists easy classification. Distorted textures, intricate sound design, and subtle sampling weave through each track, balancing grit and clarity. Despite its variety, a single thread runs throughout: a tension that feels both ominous and euphoric. That restless curiosity defines the album, from the stark propulsion of Ganzfeld to the layered atmospherics of Skeng.

Growing up in Cardiff, far from London’s pirate radio hubs, Garvey developed in isolation, guided by instinct. Record shops were classrooms, and intuition was the only teacher. “I had to work out what hit me,” he recalls. “No tutorials, no shortcuts, just listening and learning.” That independence shaped a sound that is club-ready but unconstrained, detailed yet raw.

The title Interloper reflects Garvey’s position within the culture: present but never fully belonging. It is both an inside joke and a quiet statement, a nod to the artist who exists in the shadows, shaping the scene without demanding its spotlight.

In a world driven by visibility, Garvey’s silence is deliberate. He allows the music to speak for itself, building a reputation on substance over persona. “If I was going to make an impact, it had to be through the strength of the music,” he says.

Interloper stands as both culmination and continuation, intense without theatrics, brooding without ego, and deeply personal while remaining universal. It is a record that lingers, its impact growing long after the final note fades.

“Really, it’s just about doing the work,” Garvey says. “You show up, make something honest, and let it run.” In a landscape obsessed with immediacy, Interloper is quiet defiance, a record that doesn’t ask to be seen, only to be felt.

J:Kenzo and Basic Rhythm join forces on 'Strontium Dog / Mek Quake', landing on Metalheadz for the first time together with a release inspired by the iconic 2000 AD comic series. The project began with Basic Rhythm's idea to build tracks around characters from the comic, later bringing J:Kenzo into the fold to shape the drums and overall energy. The first track they completed, 'Mek Quake', was quickly signed by Goldie, with 'Strontium Dog' following soon after.

Across both cuts, the pair explore contrasting sides of drum & bass: 'Strontium Dog' rolls with tense, atmospheric precision, while 'Mek Quake' drives forward as a heavyweight stepper. Futuristic yet rooted in foundation, the release captures two producers united by both a shared love and vision for the sound.

Park Shadow is the project of Finnish producer Joonas Lehtinen, a figure whose roots stretch back to the late '90s tracker era. A very personal vision of drum and bass, this project reflects a balance between natural formlessness and urban grit.

With previous releases across the scene, Park Shadow arrives on Metalheadz with the 'Altitudez EP'. Goldie's interest in the title track set the course for an EP that draws on the roots of jungle and drum & bass while exploring its outer edges.

Across its four tracks, the EP unfolds as a journey - beginning in foggy melancholy, shifting into bittersweet, rave-charged energy, rising toward brighter, more uplifting tones and closing with an almost dreamlike sense of release. Breakbeat-heavy throughout, the 'Altitudez EP' is a release that carries the spirit of jungle into new terrain.

Artificial Intelligence will be releasing their next album with Metalheadz and it’s their most accomplished work to date. A mature, confident long player that when listening you can’t help but feel is ‘potential achieved’ and a genuine pleasure to be releasing via the label.
The aesthetic of the album harks back to early AI material. It’s full of soul but has darker moments amongst its beauty. The palette of the project draws on classic era Jungle and goes as far back as Chicago house but in its entirety it’s much more than that; they are just some of the influences to be found on an expansive album that ticks many boxes.
Collaborations on the album come from SCAR and newcomer Dawn Wall whilst vocals are taken care of by DRS, Terri Walker, Steo and MC Sense.
Let’s leave label boss Goldie to have the final say on the album; ‘Artificial Intelligence have given us some great music in the past so naturally I’m really happy that we’ll be releasing their latest album, I’ve been a fan for a long time’

The 2017 seminal album from Goldie 'The Journey Man' is about to receive the remix treatment with Goldie himself having invited a host of artists to express their take on his third studio album. Described as Goldie's 'magnum opus' and his legacy LP, this reworks package breathes new life into an already incredible body of work. Drawing in both established names and those dipping outside of the drum & bass sphere, it's given a different dimension with every unique offering.

With names like Digital & Spirit leading the charge, paying homage to the late Spirit's heritage whilst bringing Digital's authority into the mix for 'I Think of You', the standards are already set in that first cut. Later contributions on part 1 come from names like Zero T, Jon Dixon, Phase, Artificial Intelligence, Mako, DieMantle, Mathew Jonson and Subjective (Goldie and James Davidson).

Meanwhile, part 2 draws first for the chaotic tones of Grey Code, juxtaposed by the work of Calibre, then followed by the likes of Jubei, Jon Dixon ft. Mike Banks, DieMantle again (this time with a faster version), Total Science, Dom & Roland, Jay Clarke and Lenzman. From beginning to end, there's an incredible array of talent.

'The Journey Man Remixes' draws for artists who have made their impact on Metalheadz and those who are currently grafting their places within the wider electronic scene, portraying the abundance of influences and tastes of Goldie.
