Woke up to 6000 followers so I thought I'd do an upload to mark the occasion.

It's unseasonal, but humour me. For the fourth 'Summer of '94' mix I wanted to get away from the mild beardstrokiness of preceding editions and bring it squarely back to the music I was hearing, buying and loving that summer. Obvious I know - but it never ceases to amaze me how music fixes memories in the mind. Forgive the stream of thought, but this selection takes me from summertime house parties in the posh suburbs, my final trip to Glastonbury (cheers Dad for the VIP privileges and the lift home, RIP x) ... to a two-week family camping holiday in France, soundtracked with a legendary DJ Sy cassette (acquired from aforementioned festival) and Dextrous' outstanding Time To Move/Rapid and the EZ Rollers 12" on repeat (freshly bought and hastily taped off while packing). All of this interspersed with Roni & Krust's regular shows on Galaxy Radio and live at Ashton Court ... and the girls, fuck's sake don't get me started, what it was to be 18 ... then into the Autumn with the Dreamscape XII tape pack, starting Foundation Art at UWE and meeting fellow junglist aficionado Olly G and his little bro Ell. Mate, weren't those just the best times? Must give a shout into the void to our alumni (lol) Chas, Toby, Donna & Nic and the hilarious double act of South African junglist Andy and his Spanish mate Damien - this was back in the pre-internet days of Chinese-whispered song IDs, and I can't forget Andy's stoned enthusiasm for 'Cool Fresh Air', 'Good Vibrations', 'Cool Runnings' and of course the killer 'she said the jungle, came alive and took it'... all present and correct in this mix. God I could talk endlessly about it; and you probably don't need to know about all the activities this music soundtracked - Mike M driving us to Weston-Super-Mare for some of the worst chavvy grab-a-granny nights I've been to, concussing myself running into a patio door (classic), watching endless Steven Seagal videos, playing SF2 on the SNES until sunrise. But I'm sure you can relate in some way? :)

The Metalheadz back catalogue features almost every major figure in the history of drum and bass, and is one of the most innovative labels out there, consistently crossing boundaries with its releases since 1994. The labels output continues to showcase a maturing genre of music that displays influences from reggae, hip-hop, house and techno with highly-sophisticated and intricately-produced tracks, contrary to the image of the music that is typically presented by the mass media.

Releasing music from some of the biggest names out there whilst at the same time pushing and letting new talent break through are the reasons why Metalheadz continues to stay at the forefront of drum and bass. The stable is currently home to Goldie, Lenzman, Jubei, Commix, Ulterior Motive, Artificial Intelligence, Dom & Roland, OneMind, Mikal, Blocks & Escher and SCAR.

The Metalheadz label was also the driving force behind the seminal Sunday Session Club Nights, which achieved legendary status at London's Blue Note club. Today, Metalheadz club nights are often sell outs with the label also regularly hosting stages at some of the biggest festivals across the world.
