International Tribe is a weekly mix series hosted by Thris Tian.

This week’s International Tribe mix comes from Asquith. 

Asquith founded the label Lobster Theremin back in 2013, with its debut release from Palms Trax. The label has now gone on to be one of the epicentres of the global dance scene, with a highly respected distribution service and a physical shop in Hackney.

He has had multiple releases under a range of aliases included Chicago Flotation Device, Tom Hang and his now latest artist title Asquith. With multiple releases and an expanding taste, the London based artist takes influence from all across the scene, including the sounds of UKG, Warehouse Techno and Melancholic house.

In his words, Asquith 'tried to craft something a little more interesting for this mix, both in terms of track selection and the overall mix structure. The overall feel lies somewhere between the more effusive side of deeper electronic music, the heady days of breakbeat led rave, a more ambiguous and machine-based techno style, and a nerdy selection of tracks containing an array of classic and retro-futuristic synth sound design.

There are slow mix blends and harsher chop-ins of kicks and more sudden mix outs. It also contains an almost-even split of forthcoming Lobster material and recent track favourites, and I think that this really helps to contextualise what we're exploring at Lobster at the moment on the more mid-tempo end of the dance music spectrum.'
