Metanoia- change in one's way of life resulting from penitence or spiritual conversion

Metanoia (rhetoric)- correction, a rhetorical device

Metanoia (Psychology)- the changed mindset of those who reject consumerism and materialism as the basis of progress.

These are all different definitions for the word, ‘Metanoia’, But to Mikey J, and Christian, Metanoia may be just a little more difficult to describe.



Mikey J; a strive for difference and soul of true, ‘Indigo’, making his way into a starting phase of his career in hip- hop. Through his collected sounds, some may be able to recognize that his roots in EDM are prominent. The compounding of EDM factors, with Hip- Hop direction, create a very different sound which ultimately may enable listeners to feel certain emotion through the music itself, not only our lyrics.

Christian says Hip- Hop puts people in a mood, almost a vibe, which allows them to connect or express themselves to the content which the music conveys, “That’s why I make music.”, he says. Christian was effected by music in a way where certain songs helped him get through certain things, listeners connect with songs to remodel the way they felt at any given point in time, Christian aims to do the same with his listeners just as highly regarded artists have done for him.

When Christian and I started making music with Mikey J we were between a broken group and a hard- place. We saw potential in Mikey J and he saw the same in us, then a trial period came where we would record a few songs with Mikey J because he was kind enough to lend us time in his studio. After a while we all decided it would be a good idea to make a group of our own, “What do you think of the name ‘Metanoia’?”, At first it sounded odd, it didn’t hit our ears right, that was until we found out what Metanoia actually meant: the process of experiencing a psychotic "break down" and subsequent, positive psychological re-building or "healing". Yes, it is exactly how it sounds, complicated, but we figured the name fit perfectly since we, at the time, were all dealing with our own things. But due to the fact that South OC had virtually no hip hop scene, and what little it did have was terribly- sickening and to be quite frank kids around here knew not what the hell they were talking about, it was all gangbanging and mindless- self indulgence. Bottom line is; we felt there was no place for digression in hip hop, regardless of creed, color, or culture. So ironically we felt compelled to create a rightful music scene for the place in which we grow.

We as humans are all connected, out of mind out of sight is no excuse, we owe a responsibility to each other to become enlightened and free our minds, And so, Metanoia IS.
