After experimenting with FL Studio's newly added stem separation on some of the tracks I've always wanted to remix, the vocal on this one came out alright. I then started playing about with the M1's classic house piano sound over the top and well one thing led to another and here we are :) 

One of my favourite tracks of all time was a big Baby D fan back in the day - they even played at a nightclub in my hometown called Goldiggers in 1992 however I was only 9 years old (the live recording was released on the So Pure CD single though which I was thrilled about!) so I had a lot of fun with this - the original is 135 bpm and with the uplifting chords/piano a Duane Barry mix felt about right

Simon Shackleton’s next outing as Elite Force finds him remixing one of Hungary’s 
most influential underground figures to commemorate a significant milestone in 
the nation’s clubbing history.
A mainstay of the Budapest scene, Metha runs the city’s hugely popular BeMassive 
parties and its eponymous record label. Over the years, he’s invited numerous 
topflight DJs to rock his events but he only had one person in mind to remix ‘Ugly 
Cowboy’, a track that marks two decades of BeMassive. 
“It’s a sincere honour to celebrate BeMassive’s 20th anniversary alongside my 
personal idol, Elite Force,” said Metha. “This release is exceptionally important for 
me. It doesn’t just pay tribute to the musical legacy of the past 20 years but also 
celebrates our deep friendship. ‘Ugly Cowboy’ defines the sonic landscape of
BeMassive to this day – dirty, massive and energetic.”
Indeed, Metha’s original is a full-blooded breakbeat workout that brings real 
energy to the dancefloor, with distorted bass blasting out below crisp, cantering 
drums and static electric fizzes that add more voltage.
Frankly, Shackleton is a perfect artist to add his own take. His work as Elite Force 
pioneered this sound and though he’s a master craftsman of several styles, he 
never fails to deliver irresistible breaks. Here, he effortlessly compresses time with 
a tough floor filler that nods to the classic tech-funk era of the late noughties but 
swells with the full frequency production techniques of 2023. Excitable vocal 
exclamations burst out of his re-rub while heavily processed sounds and a roaming, 
saw-tooth bassline keep things raw and hypnotic. With the tension mounting, a 
skewed and acidic lead synth busts out and sprays around the mix causing the best 
kind of carnage.
“I’ve DJed for my good friend Metha for many years, playing at his epic BeMassive 
events in Budapest, and during that time I’ve seen his music evolve and flourish,” 
said Shackleton. “It’s a real privilege to create a remix for this milestone release 
and doing so under my Elite Force alias was the best fit for the original.
“Metha is one of those rare unsung heroes you occasionally meet when you travel 
the world,” added Shackleton. “He’s a legend in Hungary and is just as capable of 
filling dancefloors with tech-house and techno as he is with breakbeat or emotive 
house. There aren’t many DJs that can say that and, as such, he deserves a much 
bigger platform on the world stage.”
With ‘Ugly Cowboy’, Metha and Shackleton ensure BeMassive’s 20-year legacy will 
echo through the canyons of dance music.

Following on from the success of the Elite Force ‘Nipped & Tucked’ album release two weeks ago (20,000 streams and rising), I’m following up with Volume 2, dedicated to revitalizing some of my favourite Simon Shackleton tracks, including the previously unreleased ‘Keep The Fire Burning’.

I've meticulously edited ten tracks from my extensive back catalogue for the ‘Nipped & Tucked’ series, bringing a fresh twist to the music I love - not everyone wants 7 minute long tracks these days (but if you do, they are out there!). The second volume, out now, features infectious grooves, dark intense rhythms, twists of futurism and end-of-the-night hands-in-the air euphoria.

“Coming back to these tracks with brevity at the top of mind was a really useful and inspiring project for me. So much music I’ve made over the years has been laser-focused on dancefloor and groove to allow DJs as much flexibility as possible to use my music in their sets. ‘Nipped & Tucked’ puts the listener centre stage and invites them into my world of emotive electronic music. It’s a great way to sample some of my newer and older work in a more readily digestible format.”

The compilation series artwork is available as high-quality photo prints in my recently launched Dekor Arts Prints store on Etsy. In addition to a range of geometric and abstract music-related pieces, the store features a host of minimal retro-futuristic landscapes created by myself that will work a treat in the style-conscious home.
