Dreamcatcher

It's a cliche, but tough moments in life can often be surprisingly inspiring in the end. This is also my first song with lyrics, apologies for (lack of) vocal skills. I think I'll try it more often in the future.

Five Dates

I suddenly stumbled upon this old melody that I wrote on my Guitalele (hence the name, combined with Lullaby) around 2015 and decided to record it again. Nothing fancy, just a simple melody, hope you enjoy.

Guitalullaby

I had the incredible honour of playing at my friends' wedding, the ceremony was held in the amazing Westerkerk (Westerchurch) in the West of Amsterdam. 

The unique acoustics of the church were both a blessing and a curse. I tried different things and eventually came with this composition, using the enormous reverb of the church to let all the notes resonate. I tried to play just as slowly and clearly as I did in the church, but it's hard not to speed up. At first I wanted to mimic the reverb in this recording, but in the end I decided to go for an acoustic unedited version, hope you enjoy!

Westerliefde

I don't usually play fingerstyle guitar, but I got this idea and went for it. I'd like to dedicate it to Tommy Emmanuel. I remember the first time I saw him live: I couldn't believe neither my eyes nor my ears (this was the era before youtube, I just went because a friend advised me to join and had no idea who this Emmanuel was). 

Later I realised it wasn't just his talent and technical skill, but also his happiness that had made such an impact. He was smiling the entire time and obviously enjoying it at least as much as I was.. and he had the best seat of us all! Hence the name of the song. 

Last time I saw him play here in Holland he let several Dutch young artists join in. May he (and the other artists) inspire us for ever, musicians or not.

Playing for the joy of it (for Tommy)

I wrote this song for my grandfathers funeral in 2009 and performed it there. It was my first experience with composing for a specific occasion and it took me a long time to finish it, nevertheless I'm happy with the result and I still play it from time to time.
