Dark Day

A shrill alarm signal hammers its way louder and louder into the consciousness. Waking up from a dull dizziness and scanning the surroundings with cumbersome movements in the darkness, a display flickers when touching a smooth surface. "Cryo Capsule failure" could be read in distorted letters. 
The pale light of the display gave a glimpse of the confined space. Breathing seemed to become increasingly difficult and a queasy feeling spread unstoppably throughout the entire body. A mixture of fear and panic made the throbbing of one's own heart beat swell to a hammer that drowned out everything. 
Time seemed to draw to an agonizing eternity. Meanwhile the body trembled with the almost unbearable tension. Anger flared up deep inside and the hand clenched to the fist. In an act of madness, the pent-up force unleashed itself in a fanfare of blows against the inner wall of the cryocapsule.
Something gave way, a click was heard and followed by a soft hiss the air escaped from the narrow prison. The capsule opened slowly under the buzzing of the servomotors. Dry and cool air flowed into the interior of the capsule and the monotonous shouting of the alarm signal echoed from the walls.

Broken Mirror

Climbing slowly and gently out of the capsule, stepping out into a strange and unknown world. Carefully leading the foot to the bottom. A short twitch went through the body as it stepped on the unexpectedly cool steel plates. The weakened body slid limply and powerless out of the capsule.
Searching in an eternal darkness. Only interrupted by the red light cone of a warning light, which wandered evenly and in a perpetual correlation to the crying out of the alarm through the room.
The cone of fire of the warning light showed a picture of destruction. It felt as if the heartbeat would stop for a second. The soot colored the room black, shadowy outlines and deformed shapes, which were also covered with the pitch-black soot, created a frightening scenery. Pictures of memory flared up as they crossed the scene and lay like a veil on the soot-blackened backdrop. The contrast between these two realities could not be more frightening. As if you were looking at the world through a broken mirror.

To the Ground

Stunned and crossing room by room with a wavering step, the same picture always presented itself. The thoughts hurried through the head. The search for an explanation did not reveal any answers and the hopelessness grew with every attempt. Another terminal, hectically removing the soot layer and tapping on the smooth surface with automated motion sequences to obtain a reaction, a sign of life. But the display remained in a black motionlessness. 
Overwhelmed by the desperateness of the situation and enveloped by a leaden heaviness of hopelessness that damps all sensations. Slowly walking to the ground and huddled up against the blackened soot wall. The gaze is fixed on the floor. A final idea emerges from the depths of consciousness. The thoughts turned, a strangely bitter taste spread on the tongue. Tedious and walking through the corridors as if in a trance, towards an invisible goal. Then a trace that was barely recognizable in the soot. Following the trail, passing countless open airlocks, all the way to one door.
The seal of the door had been broken. Fragments of the seal lay on the floor. In a strangely different shade they stood out from the soot-blackened floor slabs. As they approached, the door slides almost silently to the side. The amazement at this first reaction touched and allowed a glow of hope that, despite all the destruction, something seemed to be intact. Slowly entering and with a cautious step. Then a crackle of glass followed by a bright blinding light. The lighting started. Sheer blindly and with narrowed eyes several seconds passed until the chamber revealed its secrets.
In the background the door closed barely audibly. The silence that entered seemed strange and swallowed every sound, even the omnipresent alarm signal ceased. No, everything seemed to fall silent and thus pay homage to this conical smooth apparatus in the centre of the chamber. It seemed to tapering towards the base, like a bud it protruded from a vine of cables. Consisting of a strange material, a metallic liquid. This viscosity, which seemed to defy any physical laws, cast a spell over everything. The bizarre fascination of the object suddenly drew attention to another aspect. The long-tracked trace of soot led like an ominous premonition to the apparatus.
Looking down and looking at the soot-colored hands in the bright light. This contrast to the flawless surface of the device seemed unreal, even strangely out of place. Observing and instinctively knowing that this installation could mean salvation. But, contrary to expectations, a pale and clammy feeling, like a voracious mushroom, spread further and further. It didn't feel like rescue. It was an exit, another door into nothingness. The innermost was reluctant to enter this thing. But there was nothing left here. 
Deep breaths, the following silence lay like a cloth over the scenery. The threshold was crossed calmly, calmly and with a deeply rooted determination, and the door to another world was passed. As if penetrating through a curtain of water into the interior of the machine, surrounded by the metallic liquid and finally eagerly absorbed and assimilated by the apparatus.

Resurrection

Far away, in a darkened room, a circular basin stands in a cone of light. At its side, a robot arm repeatedly dips into this shallow basin, which is filled with a milky liquid. Countless hoses and cables lead from the pool into the surrounding darkness. The robot arm acts seemingly arbitrarily, but the movements are still filled with an ominous precision. 
The milky liquid injects slightly viscous when the robot arm is immersed. Hidden in the tank, fibres are connected, tissue and blood vessels are knotted and neuronal connections gradually grow. The secret knowledge to recreate a body on a cellular level, to form a body in this machine, even to weave it, is reserved for only a few. And then suddenly it becomes quiet. The arm retreats. The surface smoothes out and a depressing calm emanates from the tank. 
A kind of blood is led through hoses into the body. After an infinitely long moment, a flash of lightning passes through the basin. The liquid trembled and inside a heart begins to beat. Blood is pumped through the veins. An eternally pulsating flow that branches out into the finest vessels. Life is breathed into the empty shell. Something had to end for something new to begin. Is it what is waiting on the other side, a resurrection, a new beginning?
