With a combination of powerful lyrics paired with driving beats, Metropolis Blac’s work is nothing short of anthemic. 

Tony D. Roby was born on Chicago’s Westside, before moving to the Bronzeville neighborhood, a famed area that was commonly known as “The Black Metropolis.” The moniker Metropolis Blac is a tribute to his upbringing. Cutting his teeth on artists like Jay-Z, Ice Cube, and Notorious B.I.G., his ear stayed tuned to the sounds of struggle,  and his vision focused on images of survival. 

His evolution into hip-hop came from pure altruism, wanting to help a friend and producer push his tracks to artists. “The production was dope! I heard these beats and composed some lyrics to put over them so he could sell them.”
