He weaves almost cloud like sonic structures that put the listener in the middle, surrounded by sound and perception of sound via vocals, verbal hallucinations and other audio stimulation that thread through this EP making it work as a solid unit which squarely puts the audience inside the tracks.

I've Just Seen A Face

Ortem 022 is ‘All Hallows” an EP by NCRTYP and Alley Cat. The two of them have individually skirted around the edge of “drum and bass” for many years and after support of NCRTYP’s Futurepastzine LP from Alley Cat and a mutual appreciation of Goth, this project was born. The EP takes its name from the studio, situated in Londons oldest church, now deconsecrated, which was used by amongst others The Cocteau Twins, who are a huge influence to both artists and also sets the Gothic theme for the EP.

Blackwing opens proceedings with a deep electro journey. It’s a perfect fusion of beats, synth bells and vocal crackles. It moves forward in a half time fashion and steps up upon the entry of a dark held bass, tension strings and layers of drums.

Peckham Quarters is building anticipation over a rhythmic conveyor belt and big synth work. The overriding effect leads to a solid head nod to the beat. It evokes all the influences thus far and distills them into a hypnotic brew which intoxicate the listener and pull them further into the tune.

Widows Tribe combines tribal movements and otherworldly noises, hits of wood and metal and a throbbing bass that carry you through to where the track gains extra momentum half way through via a disjointed breakbeat, the resonance of what could be a lasso d’amore alongside metallic and chemical influences.

All Hallows, the title track, is a spirited blend of dark ancestral vibes and industrial post punk. It creates an eerie tension interwoven with 808 drum machine percussion, filtered breaks and hits of sonar. Synth work is signature NCRTYP and is both unnerving and uplifting in equal measure.

The whole EP embodies the Goth and Gothic sensibilities held and shared by Alley Cat and NCRTYP and really defies all categories and wears its influences on its sleeve, which in turn are twisted and shaped into something new and vibrant.
