In this scenario, Kurt Cobain does not die in 1994. He does have several relapses before successfully completing a rapid detox program, where he temporarily gets clean from opiates, and can finally think straight. He begins divorce filings, and talks to Krist, Dave and Pat about breaking up Nirvana, or at least going on a long hiatus so that he can pursue a solo acoustic album, and more importantly; avoid major tours and label commitments.

Geffen, however, says they owe them one more studio album, along with the planned live double album (Unplugged/Wishkah). So they hatch a plan to provide a compilation record similar to 'Incesticide' (1992), using a few new songs they recorded in 1994, along with outtakes from previous albums, and revamped unreleased/non-album material. The result is a second compilation album, and Nirvana's 5th and final full length album, which is appropriately named 'Formaldehyde', referencing the chemical used to preserve the dead.

The two songs in this post (Talk to Me / Do Re Mi) were never recorded in a studio, they are built from poor live audio recordings (and studio mockup by the great Riot Earth channel). Either one could have been a single in 1995.
