Sua sonoridade permeia diferentes estilos e gêneros, fazendo sempre uma colagem de diferentes paisagens sonoras em seus sets, mas tendo as diferentes vertentes da disco music e da música brasileira como suas principais referências.

Um pouquinho de lisergia brasileira dos anos 60 pra comemorar o Dia da Bicicleta!

A música "Lindo Sonho Delirante", que é também conhecida como "LSD" foi originalmente lançada nos anos 1960 pelo cantor Fábio, e é considerada uma das músicas mais emblemáticas da psicodelia brasileira. 

Uma curiosidade é que a música foi lançada em 1968 e passou pela censura da ditadura militar sem problemas para chegar ao público, isso porque o LSD ainda estava fora do radar das autoridades brasileiras na época, com a 1a condenação acontecendo somente em 1970 como é retratada pelo historiador Júlio Delmanto.

O Dia da Bicicleta, 19/04. como é conhecido, é comemorado no mundo todo como o dia do 1o uso intencional de LSD por uma pessoa, Albert Hoffman.

We turn to the past for solace in a culture where the future seems ever-elusive. Nostalgia, a bittersweet yearning for times gone by, becomes a refuge, a melancholic comfort zone. Against this backdrop, Gustavo Baida AKA Ponkan arrives with his debut EP, Memória Elétrica.

Memória Elétrica delves into the sounds that evoke this feeling – synthetic timbres, reverb-drenched beats – but with a twist. Drawing heavily from Italo Disco, Electro, and House, it uses these influences to craft a fresh soundscape. Rather than simply mimicking the past, Ponkan recontextualizes these sounds, imbuing them with a new, vibrant energy for the present. Memória Elétrica is a dancefloor-ready reimagining, a bridge between eras.

The ability that fruits hold to become allegories for pretty much anything humans do seems to be endless. Probably because their inherent qualities invite almost all of our sensory devices to experience what they have to offer, hence serving as rich metaphors for what we strive to do best with our innermost energies. Sources of both nourishment and pleasure, they are nearly ubiquitous in how we experience the world around us and mobilise a gamut of our faculties in order to be perceived. However, while we can smell, taste, touch and see the qualities of any pome, the very sense that provides the leitmotif for the artform we elevate through this series plays a minor role in our enjoyment of these gifts from nature. We all can certainly agree that 'hearing produce' is an outlandish notion as much as it is a rather unattainable proposition, but one that comes to fruition when we listen to the wonderful palette of sounds created by this aptly named artist we are honoured to guest. A gifted producer and careful selector, Ponkan is part of the extended family we keep and has contributed with his many talents to the aural abundance we boast. And what we have in this episode is a feast for each of our senses: a juicy mix filled with delicious textures that exudes a festive aroma aimed at pleasing our ears as much as our bodies. Still, one could ask where sight plays a part in this whole affair, sadly ignoring the wonderfully fitting layout and this accompanying text. We can only hope it all comes together and the latter doesn't get in the way of anyone's enjoyment of such a delightful offering.

Ponkan é o projeto do produtor musical e DJ, Gustavo Baida, que lança seu EP de estreia, Memória Elétrica, pela Gop Tun Records nesta sexta 25/07. Movido sempre por uma curiosidade radical e fascinado pela sensação de descoberta, ele explora no disco uma sensação que lhe comove a muito tempo, a nostalgia, e a relação fundamental que a música tem com esse sentimento. Como DJ, Ponkan é residente do projeto Baileárica (@bailearica), que explora pérolas perdidas do meditêrraneo e dos bailes anos 90, passando fundamentalmente por gêneros como Italo Disco, Balearic e Miami-bass. Como produtor, além do atual EP, tem diversos lançamentos de edits de clássicos do brazilian boogie pelo selo Tropicana Records (Lisboa).

Ponkan is the project of the brazilian DJ and producer, Gustavo Baida, releasing his first EP with Gop Tun Records. Always motivated by a radical curiosity and fascinated by the feeling of discovery, in his debut EP Ponkan explores a feeling that has moved him for a long time, Nostalgia, as well as the fundamental relationship that music has with this feeling. 

As a DJ, Ponkan is a resident and founder of the project Baileárica, which explores lost gems of the mediterranean and of the 90s dance party, or “bailes”, with inevitable influences from genres such as Balearic and Miami-bass. As a producer he has also released several edits of brazilian boogie classics with the Lisboa-based label Tropicana Records.
