Russian Blues

A song that I wrote when I was feeling, well, uh….depressed — yeah, not so good. However, I think I produced a nice, beautiful song out of that feeling of depression…in a way, turning lemons 🍋 into lemonade🍹 

A song about “that place” where you go down to when your heart feels really wrong and you can’t be lifted up, the only thing that helps is song - I wrote this song at one of those times when I was going down to that place where you just feel down and like you don’t fit it in. It was a song written about the state I was in when I wrote it.

That Place

This song is about what the title implies — the importance of living a life guided by the principle of moderation. It’s really quite simple …. or is it? This tune is a favorite among friends and relatives.

Moderation

An instrumental track, recorded in 2012 with my Korg Triton and Pro Tools, during a period of self-searching emotional despair, features sad, searing and wailing melody lines blended together on the keyboard over a steady drum track.

Water Under The Bridge

A nice little tune with piano and vocals about enjoying the little things in life, also asking some basic philosophical questions about meaning and purpose in life. Achieving goals, big or small, can really give you something to live for. You stop living in fear and start becoming more productive. You stop living with guilt and shame. You become more social and feel better about yourself. Your thoughts become more clear. There’s no one solution for everyone.

Comfortable

A continuation off the song “Comfortable” — “Greenback” continues to play on themes of life, love, leisure, music, creativity, etc. Being present in the moment and only escaping into the beauties and gifts of reality. The whimsical lyrics seem to make sense without making sense. I’m glad you are here to listen to and enjoy this song. We are all here to thrive. Things keep happening that are unexpected to happen, and if we just hang in there….maybe our dreams will come true…. A never ending love 💚

Greenback

A piano composition that reminded someone of autumn, and thus it was named….the original working title was “Sad Changes.”

Just a little collaboration between me and a friend named Dylan I met in Los Angeles. This was real our only collaborative effort together, but I think it’s cool! 🤷

This song is about the weariness with which we often take/perform our actions and go about our days and nights, and go about our lives.

“Open Up (Be Yourself)” is a collaborative project between David “Mezzy” Mesirow, Drew Ann Drysdale and Onor Bumbum (Onur Uzunismail). Written, performed and produced by these three classmates/friends (“The Socially Awkwards”) while students taking a UCLA Extension songwriting class in 2012. All three of us shared in common that we could relate to a feeling of social apprehension/awkwardness/isolation, so we channeled our thoughts and feelings around this subject into our class’s final project (a fully produced and finished song, I.e. music track), going on to receive great fanfare from both professors, our classmate peers, and many individuals beyond the course. This song/production has touched and inspired many people and we hope it will continue to do so far into the future! We are proud of this accomplishment, and understanding of the very powerful and influential role that not only songwriting, but music production and recording arts can have in encapsulated a feeling, statement or message and propelling it far into the future for later generations to behold and appreciate. We are grateful for the lasting impact of this track. Please enjoy! ☺️
