Berlin-based producer @obliqueincidence returns to the @electrocaine imprint in 2020 with four resounding cuts entitled ‘Sun’ EP. Oblique is a Berlin-based artist framing genre-bending and pulsating soundscapes together with a non- conformist attitude. Drawing influences from his wide cultural background, each release communicates a different take on electronic music. While Oblique’s  Argandiwal (وال ارغنده) release on Mauritius based label electrocaïne in April 2018 touched upon the exploration of a lost heritage through intense and multi-layered soundscapes, his ‘Sun EP’ comes with a more technically focused probe into how some of the previously discovered and now signature elements could be further embodied in the dance format. With the four tracks crossing established genres, Oblique takes elements of house, techno and breakbeat to create his own vision awashed in the bright rays of luminosity that shone through his first record. ‘Sun’ kicks things off with dreamy synth patterns, raw kicks and uplifting euphoria before ‘EZ’ deploys clattering breakbeat styled grooves, emphatic modulations underneath and pulsating melodies that continue to flutter throughout. ‘Form’ lays focus on broken drum patterns, winding oscillations and thick, resonating bass reverberations that carries the track’s energy until ‘Known’ rounds things off by uniting glistening soundscapes and angelic leads smoothly blended with reviving elements within.

Scott Fraser makes up the revered group of producers that is Andrew Weatherall, Sean Johnston, Timothy Fairplay and Daniel Avery that share the same underground bunker studio in East London, affectionately calling themselves 'The Axis'. Scott's 'Life Of Silence' 12" on Weatherall's Bird Scarer imprint in our opinion was the best thing committed to vinyl in 2012, and his releases on World Unknown and Astro Lab are straight up killer. Station master of Far Out Radio Systems is the Genk based producer Thomas Neyens, who keeps a cinemascope view on electronic music and has previously released on the SoHaSo- label as Kiani & His Legion.

On Boolean Plains takes you back to the IDM hey days of labels like Warp and Skam, back when the Artificial Intelligence-series got praise from electronic music lovers around the globe. Neyens manages to reshape that magic and make it his own, thanks to more than a handful of intricate melodies and the occasional distorted beat. Edgy electronic dance music about a world in distress. It will bring you both comfort and concern.

The title track is a melancholic Bola-esque affair, with beautiful gloomy strings, eerie breakbeats and enough space to hide yourself in. But you will also find beautiful ambient bliss (‘Beta Ceti’), bleepy techno with a firm nod to Plastikman (‘Queen of the Streets’) and soothing percussive house (‘Do We Have a Cosmic Connection’), a track that will lure you to that sweet spot on the dancefloor.

While Neyens knows his classics, On Boolean Plains is not a retro album. Far from. It’s both a personal leap from what was to what will be AND an imprint of current affairs. Hence titles like ‘Theme For The Lockdown’ and ‘Tears in Code’.

Far Out Radio Systems truly lives up to it's name. Strong vibes in every direction.
